A piece of internaled U channel, heat tweaked, glued to a bent flat piece and started blending in the lava.

I used the U so I didn't have to do an internal blend
A good loan.

WIP glue up today of a fairy house I’m making with the big one (9). Good job fairies can fly as my patience would run out at miniature staircases.

She mostly beat the copper roof into shape herself round the anvil, after a bit of practise.

Copper roof? For a bit of real world education, when you do the down pipes, may I suggest:

You can keep them quiet for hours with this sort of thing! One thing I used to do was draw in CAD, then print door's windows, a brick pattern etc on pink card (green for a boy). Stick to an old cardboard box and Pringle tubes. Cut doors etc out with a craft knife. Instant fairy castle! Not sure who had the most fun...

Finished the compound bolt. Found I will need a 2mm washer for the toolpost nut. Id forgotten how bad this compound is. Might add some thrust bearings to the screw. It is a pain to clock in!

I could use ideas to improve the mounting. I was going to make a more substantial plate but I'd really like to knock 3-5mm off the height.

Today I made a hole, most of the chassis seems good on this Discovery but this bit is where the towbar bolts on so needs to have a bit of strength, as usual it never looks too bad until you start chopping

Um...some old chipboard flooring...some screws and glue. A clue is it compliments old, cut down motor oil containers!

Clocking continues, I am not enjoying this. I have a few collet chucks and my 8 degrees is not repeatable between them, and on a collet directly is well out compared to the collet chucks.

Going to try the straight shank er40 chuck clocked in the 4 jaw but thats more effort.

I purchased some new lathe bits and cleaned the chip tray, trying to avoid the clocking!

After lots of clocking I almost gave up! Put the mt3 er32 away. Instead clocked it with the er40 mt2 and er25 mt2 in tailstock. Eventually had it within 0.01mm which was good enough to test - I was still not 100% sure why the recut chucks were so far out.

I remember somone, was it @Dr.Al ? using a drill adaptor for compound use. Old chuck key looked very suitable. Put an 8mm hole in the end to keep it centered. This made it much smoother turning. Thanks!

Quite happy with finish, its a 02 radius insert. The drills minimum feed was a bit fast, could do with being half.

Did it work? Previously had 0.2mm or more runout at 6". Needle moves half tenth at the chuck. At 2" its 4 tenths.

Near 5" its 1 thou.

Happy with that! I just need to clock the 8 degrees in better. Going to make up some fine adjust screw blocks for pushing the compound, and use trig to work out the angle properly!

Not me guv: as usual, I overengineered my solution to that problem: https://www.cgtk.co.uk/metalwork/m250/topslidemotor (partly because I wanted to be able to take repeated cuts to the same place, which the stepper motor does with ease).

I do mine like that for tapers too, wasn't my idea though!

I took my trike out for a teat ride, MOT is on Friday, and discovered how rubbish the front mudguard is on out mud-strewn country roads.....I even had mud and mess on top the fuel tank, it was everywhere.

So, into the shed for an hour.

I fear a good amount of mess comes flying out the front, rather than all just up the back. It could really do with a less abbreviated mudguard altogether.

I remember a ship I worked on in the Gulf of Mexico many years ago, plagued with rats. We had a competition who could make the best rat trap, and you’d never believe some of the contraptions that sprang forth from the crews imaginations.

Someone ruined the fun by demanding the ship go to port to get the exterminator guys in.

You are probably right - run over a cow pat in a cycle-wing equipped Caterham Seven, and you can see it come forward out of the wing, thrown forward . . . problem is, it slows down a lot as soon as it comes off the wheel, so you tend to catch it up . . . out of the corner of your eye you can see it coming towards you . . . you can certainly hear it "SPLAT" on the roll-bar by your head . . . as long as you don't slow below 50mph, you can't smell it much . . .
