I made my own version a while ago for storing drills/cutters/inserts. The big issue is you really need to fill the complete drawer to stop them sliding around, which means I still need to print about another 2 or 300 more grids.

I can't help but look at those pen and caliper holders, and think how unstable they'll be.

...can't make my mind up as to if it is a simple but brilliant idea or if it is just too much of a faf.

It is sure nothing new, and just another example of a modular concept.

Look at gastronorm, 32mm cabinet system (Ikea), systainer, lin bins, pegboards.

I wonder if someone could come up with a useful item that would fit in the remaining area of the credit card footprint. Then you'd have two gadgets occupying one wallet space.

Improved version of my dog dryer holder since spring clip style one eventually gets weaker due to weight of hose.

I can't help but look at those pen and caliper holders, and think how unstable they'll be.

The grids can be printed with screw holes in them, and the bases have provision for small magnets. But even without, they aren’t particularly unstable. But if you’re the clumsy sort you can easily print different versions that lay them flat - pretty easy and quick to do as there is a Fusion 360 plug-in so you can design your own (which I prefer, as the downloaded versions other people have done are very often not exactly what you want).

7 1/2 hour print. Reprint really. Previously I printed four at once but the ends warped and anyway I wanted to reduce the layer lines so this is printed at 0.1mm layer height. Some of the organic tree supports exploded half way through but I noticed before it turned into a giant blob. The supports were not critical and I made an executive decision to let the print continue and just monitor it to make sure it did. I think I might have over tweaked the organic settings. In the end it finished fine and what support remained removed easily.

Decided after watching some annoying youtube videos on dust collection I needed a cyclone collector and with the power of the internet and a bit of help from my Ender 5 I managed to whip this contraption up and have to say im seriously impressed.


as theres a thread in each port its easy to make whatever connectors you need



First test on a bit of sawdust and some grinder dust and at least 90% of the dust ended up in the bucket !



Im now thinking I need another one dedicated to just the mills drills and lathe as will get oily but will capture all the swarf

Can provide links if anyone interested , bucket was £10 and used about the same in PLA+

There are some usefull remixes too , I could have printed in one go but the support structure was nuts so quiker to do in 3 parts

You do realise you have your hoses connected the wrong way around in your photo?
The intake should go to the outer edge, so the material swirls around the outside and drops out the air, with the 'clean' air going up the centre.

My router table came with one, and they are very effective, but the bucket is a bit small for my needs, as I can only get 3 or 4 of my usual parts done before it's full, and it's a bit of a faff to empty as it uses a little blue barrel with a band clamped lid. Plus you can't see how full it is, so I keep looking at alternative options.

Surely you can use any size bucket even one of those 220l drums like below , that would take a while to fill ! I have a conventional 4" dust extractor for my table saw and planner that takes quite a while to fill a 100l bag but I wanted something for my chopsaw and for swarf from the metal working machines

You might have to consider the weight of it when full and how you would upend it to empty it. Perhaps two smaller ones and swap the lid back and forth. That would interrupt production for a shorter time.

Perhaps it would be possible to suspend a rod with a disk on the end of it in the lid of the bucket. Drop it down and depending how far it falls, will tell you how full the bucket is.

It needs to withstand the 'suck' of the vacuum cleaner without collapsing. I used a similar plastic bucket as in the photo above for mine and needed to saw the bottom off a second bucket and slot it inside the first one to stop it collapsing if I blocked the vacuum hose (powered by a cheap workshop vac). I think that big blue container would collapse fairly easily.

(I just used a £15 ebay cyclone.)

That is probably the biggest concern.
My little blue bucket will suck in, but it also pops straight back out.
I'm not sure how bigger buckets would fair, but it could probably be mitigated with some kind of pressure relief valve.

Guess who just noticed they also had the hoses on the wrong way around?
Although in their defence, the hose to router had been gaffer taped on by the previous owner

Ok so a chance today for a real world test of the cyclone as have some MDF to cut and its some of the finest dust you can get so didnt have my hopes too high

started with a clean filter and empty vac



Temporary setup with an old Dyson ive got a proper one coming , seriously impressed with the Parkside tracksaw its been great for a few years now



A few cuts later have a new bathroom worktop lets check the dust...



Ignore the brass handwheels just to wiegh it down seems like it caught alot!



Checked the vac and bugger me theres no dust in it at all !! the filter would be minging by now



Wish Id printed / bought one of these years ago , im going to print another just for the machine shop swarf / dust etc as it will get oily
