DTI widget. The old one has been shattered and glued up several times.

The 3d print is the orange one. Forgot I unloaded my black.

Oh well. At least I might see it before I use the flypress to launch my DTI stand into low earth orbit...

Following on from that, finally put it all together:

But now I need a spare needle for the DTI. Don't know if it is called a needle, it's not a "knobthingy" according to eBay so has anyone got one they could spare or know where I can get one?

Also seem to be called 'contact point' or 'stylus'.

However, please consider this before hitting the buy button: with plunge-type indicators, there are two threads commonly in use, an imperial one and a metric one. By extension, this is also likely to be the case with the lever type indicators*. So try and work out which one it is.

* a quick Google just threw up three(!) metric options: M1.4, M1.6 and M2.0

Thanks, I should expect it is imperial. It's an old Mercer type 301 (0.0005").

M1.6 does fit but is loose. It might do at a pinch but I'll keep looking and maybe asking...

Which relies on a viton seal and reinforced with a stainless ring.

Cost of a genuine item is astronomical. Only modelled it to get the correct measurements for turning it from SS then I thought, wtf, might as well print it.

I found for the start of printing from a cold bed I have to do two heat cycles to the bed whilst the enclosure is closed,
Increasing the bed & extrusion nozzle temp by 2 to 4 oC often works as well if the test print fails. I use Prusa's original filaments and even they need a bit of temperature tweaking sometimes.

I think it is mainly to do with variable parameters in the formulas & moisture content because of micro potholes in the surface of the filaments being used.

Printing on rafts is essential for most prints as is having your filament kept in a dry low humidity place till immediately before use on the printer. Mine stay on the machine in the closed cabinet with a 14-watt heat source on for at least a day before me using them.

Printing out in a nice well warmed stable temperature enclosure with the cabinet door closed is definitely the way forward in my opinion.

All other filaments are either still in their original unopened boxes or once opened kept in clip sealed bags & put back in the original opened boxes then stored carefully in a warmish floor to ceiling cupboard that has the wet room radiator on the other side of the cupboard.

Putting the printer in a proper full enclosure definitely helps, you'll be surprised how just a tiny air current made as you move close to the printer can affect the print if things are not , " Nice still air and cozy warm ".

A Pritt Stick wiped & smeared in print area on a heating bed used to be Joe Prusa's suggestion a couple of years ago.

It definitely worked but had to be cleaned off before it got too cold with 99% isopropanol alcohol (IA). After a couple of printings and done again before the next printing session.

Now I use ABS dissolved in IA, it lasts for half a dozen nor more prints over the same area. Once I can see numerous feint filament footprints on the bed sheet, I wipe it with AI to rearrange the film to cover the bed sheet once more and can usually do the same number of prints.
Four or five rearranging sessions & it's time to thoroughly clean the bed sheet and re coat it again with new elixir

Giving the Mondeo a bit of a mini service today. Changing the plugs and I noticed one of the 3 rubber mounts on the engine cover was missing. They slide into the cover and engage over a 10mm dia ball on the end of a pin.

Helpfully stamped on the originals is "EPDM". Gave laddo one as a sample. He's printed me a couple in TPU. Two different in terms of how "squishy", set by the number of outer walls:

2 handles on the fridge freezer and one on the freezer, all cracked and broken over the years. When laddo first got his 3D printer he made some new ones in white PLA. That was early days in terms of knowing about infills and reinforcing around screw holes so the handles failed and delaminated over time. They also got dirty and were hard to clean. SWMBO's liberal use of bleach may have hastened their demise of course.

Cue now and his latest efforts in grey PETG:

These will get a spray coat of Parkside Clear Plastic Paint and we'll see how that stands up.
