A mini one in stainless would be quite cool in the kitchen cupboard.

The second design you show is better than the first as the containers are face down. In the first one, with them face up, it is less hygienic

Stainless would be over kill for me. But yes the second one was what came into my head as I picked up the lids for the 10000 time, but I could not find it to start with.

Like many 3d printed item they exist but finding them with search function is hit and miss.

Externally is a no go unless the feet are made taller:

It might fit on the underside of the base with just 4 nuts and bolts (no fan guard required). I think I'll still have to cut the base plate to make it two pieces. You'd then remove the cover screws and hold the plate with it on whilst you unplugged the fan from the board. Usually you just undo the base plate screws and slide it out. With the fan bolted on I think it would catch on the internal wiring.

Stick some sticky backed felt pads under the feet. The ones you get for furniture feet. Poundland usually sell packs including various sizes.

I was wondering what to do with that bit of steel from when I made the incinerator. With SWMBO incapacitated I got to degrease it in the kitchen sink:

Clamped the original cover onto it, spotted through for the holes and scribed for all the slots.

That's a lot of jigsawing to be done!

Just cut an oblong hole & fit some mesh, for ventilation & finger protection. You're making that harder than it needs to be, othedwise.

If he gets bored over Xmas I am looking for a plastic container holder.
Like the ones used in Chinese takeaways.
Think of a surround and base with a slot to grab the containers through and take one out upwards.
Same for the lids.....I would have thought someone will have designed one already but I can't find one and I am fed up of the containers falling all over the kitchen at the slightest touch.
This is the closest i can find.

So a cassette type with one end and the rear on click ratchets in and out , to adjust for sizes and at the RH front corner a wheeled gear with a large easy grip knob that when rotated will drop down single containers ?

Well if someone has the skills yes. But my initial idea was just a square cornered rectangle with a slot in the front so you could grab a tray and lift it upwards. Same with lids

What size are the containers?

My quick fag packet doodling, fully enclosed or semi-open sides?

We'd radius the corners for a more organic aesthetic.

Will measure up when I can get to the calipers. Its was a passing idea no rush. If it happens it's great if not its Xmas after all.

A Prusa i3 Mk3s+

I want to build it, then let it prove itself for a while, then look at making an enclosure.

I bought the i3 due to the range of materials it can print so I think an enclosure will be important. I will need to keep the temperature stable but also control the smells without venting to outside so will have to look at a carbon filter & hepa. I want to be able to control the temperature to an extent so a combination of recirculation with a switched bleed for when it starts to get too warm.

I also need the printer to be quiet so I will look at how I construct the enclosure to reduce noise brake-out. I could make the enclosure from plasterboard with a wooden frame or possibly go the mutts nuts with insulated steel panels to absorb the noise.

I need to learn to walk before I run though as the semi-temperature controlled enclosure will need thermometers with a temperature controller, fan and recirculation to venting switch over, and all requiring me to do some electricery so a big learning curve in addition to the 3d printing.

I want the printer to make functioning parts so I will need to understand the best materials for certain uses, but I also want to learn to used threaded inserts, pivot pins, springs etc to produce good, functioning stuff.

Looking forward to getting up and running, and I am sure I will be back asking lots of questions as I progress.

My lad's Anycubic i3 Mega S is a Prusa clone. With all the upgrades it's like a different printer now.

MOSFETs, hot end fan, now stepper motor drivers, PCB fan and PSU fan are being upgraded. It's gotten quieter and more accurate. The printer itself has been a great project for him, aside what it can do.

I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how quiet the i3 is.

you need to be very careful not to introduce a draught across what you're printing, in my experience the enclosure temp just needs to be rough ball park temperature, a steady temperature inside the enclosure is much more important

also, transparent sides so you can see what's going on inside

Thanks for the replies folks, I can't wait to get started.

I agree about the drought being a potential problem which I why I thought a recirculating system may be better. I will be asking for advice during my design stage of the enclosure as I am sure it will make an interesting project. I used to design ovens and spray booths so I did think of a small internal duct system as I could make any grills and dampers on the printer.

I like the sound off the MMU system but when I was first looking at a printer about 4 years ago (I think Prusa were just changing from Mk2.5 to the Mk3 at the time) I believe they were experiencing a number of glitches - have these been ironed out now?

I look forward to getting going and sharing my experiences.
