Lad didn't think it would go together but a bit of brute force from Daddy got the thread started.
I need to add an M8 bolt if I have one that long or else a nut welded to a bit of studding.
Got the other two Printables adapters to print along with the custom 23 spline one.

I have to a ask: 23 splines and four regularly-spaced slots for expansion?
It will have one slot either at the root or tip of a spline and the rest will have no relationship to a spline. That is the beauty of 3D modelling: with thought the slots could be unequally spaced.

Didn't have a chance to take a picture of the finished "23" spline one. My lad went the other way and kept the slots equally spaced and just ditched a few half splines where the slots were. Looks like it should work fine.

He could just as easily have printed a broom handle in woodgrain PLA and wrapped insulating tape around it!

A couple of trial subframe alignment pins in grey PLA. Dimensions taken from measuring under the car and sliding various big blacksmith's drills into holes to guage the sizes. That and a bit of work with the steel rule and Vernier. Can't see why they won't work?

I would recommend printing them at an angle to avoid the obvious weak spot due to horizontal layer lines.
Printing it horizontally would be the best bet if your printer can still print an accurate cylinder sideways. At the very least, print a 1mm hole right through the middle. That will force the slicer to reinforce the centre due to internal wall structure. This may or may not be stronger than printing solid infill, you'd have to test that with your particular printer/filament.

Here's one my 3D printer made. Not me, I nicked it off Thingiverse...
it is a scan from a genuine artefact and yes I made it for a child. But I am going to give the other one to a five year old who is obsessed with dinosaurs currently.
Having asid that, I had a devil of a job getting it to print and then getting the print out of the support structure. Spent a pleasant morning whittling away at it, you can see some of the detritus above.
The finish is spectacular. Almost like polished bone!
But it's a smallish model, only 6 inches long. So I am right now printing another, bigger version closer to 10 inches.
It took me all morning to get the print started due to complications with the irregular base and the requirement to somehow not lose all those teeth...

I think you should now bury it in a 10:1 sand cement mix and give it to them with a tooth pick.

It is already entombed in support. All the green is support material.

My kids both had one of those "dig out the dinosaur bones" kits. Kept them occupied for hours.

Gonna have to dig this one out of the bin.
Failed print 6 hours in (and a ton of filament). Those "tree" supports are just too fraglie and the shape too complex. It's a scan not the ideal candidate for a print.

This is the sort of thing I got my kids. Think they were from The Natural History Museum or some such. They're completely "buried". Imagine their disappointment when they get a vegesaurus and not T-rex or a velociraptor!
Some are encased in an egg shaped fossil.
I was thinking a no bake sweet biscuit or cake mix would be good until they choke on a bit of PLA...
