Had to get this stump out, only had a small excavator on this particular job, tirfor anchored to the base of a large adj tree ripped the thing out.

That is the 3500kg lightweight one I think?
I collect the things and have 5 of varying sizes.
My brother always says I can never just have one of anything - I have to have a small one, a medium, a large and an extra large

And you’ve got the proper handle. They’re really hard to get.

Is that the wallaby? It’s different to a monkey. The wallaby was the later one and you can winch out in a controlled manner.

My dad bust his jaw winching out on an original monkey. The one I had stolen. Hope they got busted using it

I borrowed a Trewhella 'monkey winch' winch from a mate years ago to move some equipment. When I picked it up from him he gave me a warning about the handle and its ability to do you harm unlike that on the tirfor winch. Certainly did the job with ease but a hefty old lump. Fortunately like 8ob's, it had wheels for trundling around on.

This made me damn lazy, we'd pilling loads of brash onto a tarpaulin then drag it with the winch. Amazing what 11mm static rope will load to, doubled up I was pulling out bloody big bits of timber.


But those tirfors are brilliant

You seen the Lewis winch? Goes on a saw power unit like the nut guns.

Greens in hadleigh sell them but they’re proper money.

Very versatile bit of kit, can also be used in the upright position with a snatch block attached to a beam for lifting.

I built two of these capstans for difficult rigging (it's harder to find groundsmen that can work it) I bought two capstans on eBay £75

Moving my 5000kg H20.
An absolute monster. My baby Tirfor was a huge help. The rollers are a fair bView attachment 373245it bigger than scaffolding poles. Saved them out of a skip years ago.
1 hour and we moved her about 70 feet.
Surprising how steerable rollers can be when you get the hang of it.

I helped Fizzy change the main drive belts on it , it runs like a Rolls Royce Silver Ghost on all speeds and has seen little use , think Vine said it was in an R&D tool room machine at RR. then to Hawker Sidley the stood under cover at some college as the HASAW regs made the college too frightened to let the student use it . its a beast indeed .

It's an amazing bit of gear actually . the chuck on it must weigh 8 stone or more and it took up to speed as though it wasn't there.

The accuracy of it is measured in 10 ths of a micron IIRC. .

I bought a D1-8 Pratt Burnerd 4 jaw chuck a few weeks before I got the lathe. I spotted it cheap on Ebay and it's mint. Was going to sell it on. I thought I would NEVER have a lathe big enough for it
