This is what we’re using nowadays. I was meant to get a battery powered one but they were always on back order. The downside of this one is we have to drain the fuel after every use. Doesn’t get used every week and the fuel being left in them is gumming up the carbs very quickly. Powerful wee units

Horses for courses, I prefer them for long pulls and because you can run rope through them.

but my land rover MK2 hydraulic winch was fantastic, could run it all day pulling timber.

They are better for lots of reasons

You’re only limited by the length of rope, for one.

The utilities used to use them for pulling cable through ducting and overhead lines for that reason.

Problem is you have to cater for stupid. They’re re stringing lines here at the moment and using drum winches and taking ‘bites’ rather than a constant pull on a bollard.

Luckily they’re allowed on ships still. Really handy.

This is doddle to use, easy to carry anywhere, easy to set up, it’ll keep pulling till the rope breaks or I throttle down! I use it with a 200m rope.

I started using my abseiling rope 11mm static 32kn breaking strain lightweight 3:1 you can make big stuff move.
