This is his other one, a 1963 floataire. Seemingly like rocking horse crap, only ever seen one other. Was in a worse state than the bonser when it arrived

just bought a large 12 x 6.5 ft 3.5 tonne ifor williams TT126 tipping trailer. I rarely use my little ifor P8 pig trailer so I'm selling it to the neighbour who uses it more than me and will let me use it when I do get pigs again. Apart from picking up bits of machinery, the main use will be to pick up logs and pellets for the new biomass boiler and to move my bobcat and tractor around (when I eventually finish the tractor ).

I'm looking for mesh sides now. It comes with ramps and rear legs. The mesh kit for it costs about 550 +VAT but they occasionally come up for sale second hand. I guess I could make them but will resort to that only if I can't fins any.

they are a good trailer, had one here years ago, a 3rd axle would of made a job of her i always thought.

I've got a 12 year old disco 3, it pulls like a train with the 2.7 V6 and with low box gets up our hill nicely with a full load. I've had it 10 years now and its still under 100K miles and its serviced regularly so hoping I can keep it a couple more years before the salt takes its toll.

The bobcat is only a 4 footer so 1800kg operating weight so got spare weight for buckets etc.

I've been told that tri-axle trailers scrub the front and back tyres quickly as they pivot on the middle axle but I can't corroborate that.

I had a 16 foot tri axle, they are good for weight ..but..just not as manoverable as the twin wheelers especially reversing on very un even ground depending on what axle is taking the load.
the tipper you have just bought is probably the most usefull one in the range, I would certainly buy one.
dont be tempted to fit the later wide /low profile tyres as it costs more mpg due to extra drag, but again better for stability ..6 of one half a dozen..Arther

your alright with the weight then so as id take it your disco is good for 3T.

i have had tandem and tri axle here, the only thing i have thats a tandem axle trailer here now is a 8x5 with a ramp for the quad.
the cattle trailer and the flat bed are tri axle and i wouldnt ever go back to tandem for either of them sizes of trailers tbh.
id use my flat bed 14x6.5 a lot, 60% of my mileage would be with a trailer.
i was just looking today and she is 2010, i needed to go to falkirk last year and had a mind to trade her in for a new one but after buying what i was going to collect i wasnt too flush with money to be trading so i put 6 new tyres on her and new brake cables.
the only catch with that is she is nearly as good as new again now as the floor is perfect in her yet because i keep a sheet of 25mm rubber on it all the time and the tyres are good and so is the brakes so im thinking i may run her on for a while now.

so she made it 5 yrs carrying some weights she wasnt overloaded on but may not exactly have been legal either but where ever she goes she carrys weight 60% of the time.
i honestly dont know how many miles were on them, but it was a right shot, id be well happy with the wear tbh.
that aside, they are a far more steadier pull, you could do a ton with the trailer i have empty and it id be sitting steady behind you, loaded of course is a different ball game but they can be loaded just sweet and pull real nice.
not knocking your one at all tho, they are a nice trailer and pull well but like the tri there will be a sweet spot to load her and once you get that she will sail.

i have the wide low ones on the flat trailer here and i have higher ones that sit outside on the cattle trailer, id be fussy about a trailer to tow and how she would handle so its not just a notion i have but they are both as easy or as hard to pull i find.
i run about mostly with no sides or head board on the flat trailer, it saves a lot on fuel, even removing the tail board when you can reduces the drag if you do have to use sides.
in a 240 ml round trip there is €20 of fuel in the difference for me with or without the sides.

I won't be doing your kind of mileage Tinman so its a 2007, not worth paying more for the occasional use it will get. I has 5 new tyres, new leisure battery and jockey wheel and it seems straight and all the lights, hydraulics and brakes work so should do me. Bed is relatively straight and only a touch of rust on the tailgate.

Logically they will be a lot more tyre wear on three axles as yes, they'll pivot round the middle (assuming drawbar heights are correct and it's not sat up or down at the nose). The fronts and rears end up a very long way from the centre of the trailer and really do move sideways when turning.

I'd really like a big Ifor tri axle flatbed though!

the back ones were worn the most, the front ones werent far behind and the middle ones were too tired to be going much further so they pretty much all wore out at the same time.

tbh, even if the tyre wear was higher than normal id still be happy because the load is a lot steadier to pull than a twin axle which for me is more important.

Not exactly today, and not exactly acquired. Secured is probably a better word. But new to me, got to start whipping it into shape over the coming months. New workshops/warehouse.
For those that have seen the little lean-to building I work out of (main shop is opposite me) you know this is a big step up.
Will have room for quarantine areas for returning hire stock, permanent electrical test area, demo benches, enough racking for all the welding sets and spares, plus room for another one or two technicians if the need arises.
And best of all, it won't be a narrow corridor style workshop requiring lots of shuffling things about if you need something from the back of the pile.
Needs lighting and electrical distribution, plus a lick of paint, some stronger doors, some internal partition walls and a few other services but that's all straightforward stuff.
I have to wait until roof repairs are completed on the floor above but very excited, can't wait to get stuck in.

OK so didn't actually acquire it today, got hold of it the other night, but got round to using it today. 7075-T651 1/4" ali plate. Decent sized bit. Needed to make a sort of splash back for the shelves I made for above the cooker, protect the wood from the usual cooking muck coming off it.

Also had some left to make a pair of sacrificial jaws for the croclock.

Typically someone eejit had managed to put a couple of decent scores in the surface through the film so had to re-finish it, it'll do as it's not going to be seen. I'm sure the camera makes it look worse than it is!

Didn't have a big enough countersink bit for the 2 machine screws so need to dig out a 13mm drill bit to finish them off tomorrow.

The building is just next door to my workshop. It's family owned, we have a small shareholding but we will be renting.
It was occupied by a foundry but was vacated in January. It's a complicated story, and I'd not want to bore you with the details but the property has recently fallen back under control of the shareholders. This means we can get it rented out and start generating some income from it.
We've had a lot of interest in the site and it's now fully signed up with tenants (including us).
My old lean-to shop is to be pulled down for parking, so it was a case of take the plunge or downsize by putting the workshop into the premesis we own opposite.

Another project car!

This isn't the actual car (I wish) but it's the same model and colour, a 2001 Peugeot 306 D Turbo HDI, one of the last ones with the GTI6 suspension and only 110,000 miles!
The bodywork is a bit tatty but should clean up, the last owner fitted a recon back axle, made a pigs ear of it, brought it to a mechanic to finish it and mot it, ran out of money, lost his license & ended up giving the car to the mechanic to cover his bill.
Mechanic is selling it on to cover his costs, all the bits are there to get it back on the road, just needs some patience and time to put it back together, something he doesn't have as he is very busy with customers cars.

Nice car, I manufacture solid rear beam mounts to remove the passive rear steer on those. Makes the handling a bit more predictable if you like to press on let's say
