If anyone wants the Dormer 24mm MT3 and has something more suitable Im open to a swap. Seller has just messaged me, he has plenty more long ones.

The mt3 uses up the full bed length. How far down the flutes are they likely to be hard? I could chop the end off and braze a slotted shaft on, then turn a taper.

it's a panasonic toughbook cf-d1 with a
500gigglebit ssd, so plenty of room for audiobooks.

plus, when i've come to investigate: GPS built in and a sim card slot, so satnav...

PLUS! it's fast enough to be not awful running fusion 360.

The fact it's ip65 rated and drop tested to 0.9m is icing on the cake.

the cherry on top: £80, delivered from an IT recycler on the bay.

downside: scratch marks on the plexiglass screen (toothpaste will sort that) + i've had to install some drivers to get win10 to work. (sold with blue screen of death).

I'm well chuffed, tbh!

All the way down the flutes. The taper should be not hardened.

About 100 years old I would guess..a pair of Dutch sailing barge, two-speed, leeboard winches. They were in a huge pile of stinging nettles but I was so eager I didnt notice
With permission of the guy who tossed them in the undergrowth, when he converted from sail to motor.
I have sharp eyes for a curly handle hiding in the bushes..
I also put a photo of my starboard leeboard and its present winch, to show the purpose of this old, but effective and essential, mechanism.
