Sure enough these panels have 7 Pilz X2.8s at £148 a pop...
I've mostly managed to avoid PLCs although it'd sometimes be useful to program some for which we've used subbies as they have our eyes out for any in-service changes. I have built systems around Mitsubishi FXOs and the like but slightly snookered as the now-dead laptop I used was the only one we had with a serial port! Bit of a pain putting 500 lines of code in with a 2-line panel.
Think I still have a couple of Mitsubishis in the loft, they can fetch quite a bit on the bay of evil.

I use a USB to serial adapter on my computers to talk to servo drives, PLCs etc, work great.

We have several legacy phone systems where countless USB to serial converters have been tried without success. To program them I have to make sure I have one of my old Dell laptops with me, I bought a couple off of eBay for around £40 in case the normal one I use fails.
I know an engineer who has success with a Dell docking station with a serial port even though the newer Dell laptop he uses has no serial port, apparently the docking station brings the serial port out directly from the bus connector on the laptop.

Sounds like you are lucky and have a good one. I have given up with them for me they seem "miss,miss,miss, hit, miss,miss,miss,miss,miss,hit"I've got one too, but it can be a bit "hit & miss"

Well I am surprised to hear that from everyone. I have used them a lot over the last 5-10 years to programme servo drives and my PLCs and I also have one machine using one to talk to the PLC via serial modbus and never an issue, only thing I do is make sureto disable Windows being able to switch off USB in device manager.
I actually have two set up right in front of me at the moment. One is connecting my PLC to my desktop computer and the other is connecting the same PLC to a computer I am testing Mach4 on.

I have a gas canister left over from when I used to brew beer about 25 years ago. There was a little gas left in it, enough to pressure test the barrel to check the seals but now empty. I don't know whether I can get it changed as its now so old, but it means a trip to Cheltenham to see, about 18 miles each way. What I used to do sometimes when the pressure had gone was take the top off & bung a handful of sugar in it & let it build up pressure again. It was cloudy for a couple of days but soon cleared again.
Tha gas canister I've got is a Hambleton Bard, still available, but the new ones are a different shape.
Yesterday I bought a used steering wheel for my car as the previous one was worn through. Its an Msport steering wheel so hard to get and usually pricey. Got it for £30....bargain.
That evening I went to look at a bumper to replace mine while it was getting painted. One e46 bumper for £10....cheap cheap. I enquired about what else he had. "I have a steering wheel" he replies. Low and behold another Msport steering wheel for £25 plus steering column and airbag.
I was a very happy chappy after all that all be it slightly poorer.
Today I got an Msport gearknob for £8. Its been a good week lol

i checked there but i have no handle to fit you either, any i have are all up on 16-19mm.
your right tho, 35 is a bit steep.
i need a better one for my 6" but any on the bay were silly money i thought.
i bought a vice lately and it had a spare handle with it so it happened to fit my 6" and ill do for now but i have picked up a 1/2 12" swivel head elora bar that im going to modify some day.
it ill be the first time ive used my slotting head on the mill when i do, i have no idea how that will go.
if it goes ok and your not sorted by then ill run a slotted hole off for you in a boss and you can weld on something to it.
but i wouldnt be holding your breath for it just.
