The only way this country will compete is if they become more productive. Get rid of all the fat cats in upper management doing sweeet fanny Adams and make the workforce more productive .

Not only the fat cats ,look at all the companies that were ruined by strikes, the unions have a lot to answer for as well, British Leyland a prime example. The British motor cycle industry was at one time a world leader ,then the Japanese started building more reliable bikes ,that didn’t leak oil everywhere, in a lot of cases out performed British bikes and were cheaper . What did the British companies do? Buried their heads in the sand , a total lack of development and investment

Aren't they still owned by Tata?...all a bit irrelevant for me as I can't justify £40k-£80k on a defender (or whatever they cost these days!)...and I don't buy German either for that matter.

I remember when Jap cars started flooding into the UK...as a kid we really hated them because they started in the mornings! Before they came along you could easily make 50p for a bump start....even get a lift to school in the winter!

After a good look at what was available and various reviews, I decided on this one https://www.stakesys.co.uk/femi-782xl-swivel-head-portable-bandsaw-230-volt (included free delivery). The cutting info is on that page.

I dismissed Ebay, Amazon etc. as the saws may have been cheaper but the delivery cost pushed the price higher than Stakesy's. Also, with something that expensive, I didn't fancy the potential hassle of trying to sort out any faults with someone who may operate from a lock-up.

They are indeed. But all the engineering is based in the UK and most of the production.
It just annoys me all the people saying put Britain first - before jumping into their BMW or Merc.

All our Police cars are BMWs or Audis. You never see a Jag or Rangie - why? The police chiefs who make the decisions should be ashamed of themselves. Fire engines again - always used to be Dennis. Now you see Scanias, Volvos and MAN.

Any private company that doesn't innovate will eventually go out of business.

The problem in the UK I think is "management" has a time horizon up to their own retirement....so if the top guy retires in 10 years I'm afraid there is no point taking any risks....get enough of those people and the company is stuffed.

You can assess a company's innovation record by looking at their failed projects...zero failures implies playing it safe I think...so very little innovation.

SpaceX is a good example...lots of innovation...and a test rocket explodes every few weeks!

In other news....my new welding mask lights appeared today ...going to use self adhesive velcro strips to hold them in place.

Indeed it did. My father used to be a staunch Labour voter and NATSOPA Father of the Chapel. He became so disillusioned with the chaps he worked with, and their resistance to "The New Technology" that it turned him blue and he got out of the union. He accepted that there would inevitably be redundancies, but also saw that there was the potential of new opportunities, especially for the younger men. We all know how it ended up with the union's intransigence.
