On Monday I got this beast of a Bosch plane from someone who was disposing of it. It's in need of a little TLC, but it's working. It sounds like an air raid siren when it gets up to full speed.

Does anyone know the model number of it, I did a Google for it, but had no luck?

I've finally received the final part of my DRO from Banggood. It has come in three separate packages a few weeks apart. I never have much luck with Banggood. Stuff seems to end up out of stock or never leaves China. It is rarely a quick or trouble free purchase unless it is a small cheap item.

I went for this model as it appeared to be the same one that Myfordboy from Youtube uses and it seemed OK for him. It comes with covers and fittings. I've switched it on, plugged in a scale and it seems to work OK. Just need to fit it to my Marlow mill now.


The tracking on the last package to arrive (The long scale) shows it was shipped from China to Belgium and then onto the UK. Maybe that's why I've been lucky to avoid any official interference to any of the three packages along the way. Might coming via the EU rather than direct from China help?

I bought a similar set-up from CBR electronics on ebay. You pay a bit more maybe but they seem to have stock in the UK. I had mine in a few days. Its a good system, but one of the LED's is getting dim and it can make the reading a bit iffy. Might contact them and see if they can rectify it.

Acquired this Heuer vice from the rig we’re working on. The workshop is getting bolted shut and someone said if you need anything go ahead. There was a large 3ph Creusen bench grinder on its stand but 3ph and the logistics of getting it ashore was a no go. The vice came apart and went in 2 bags. 120mm wide with a 125mm throat and adjustable base.

Those are lovely vices. I’ve had one in my eBay basket since Fireball Tool did his vice testing video but I can’t quite click buy it now.

Bought this on ebay, 18 inch. The vial is out by 1/4 inch... is it worth persevering with it, maybe even scraping the bottom face once I get the level set?

The grout around the vial is dried out maybe ? I watched this a while ago, you can take the vial out and refit it and then have it calibrated.

I finally got around to putting a plug on it and the three process LEDs on the front light up and stay on indefinitely as seen in the photo below.

That’s a start. Mine used to start up fine, you’d start the arc, then the arc would extinguish and the overload would come on. You need to test it really.

Put the 0 601 590 003 into Google and also look at images.

Can't, at least not within the range it has to adust. The "insert" is loose at one end, and had something that looks like thistle mortar holding it in. Will have to make something to get it near correct and within adjustability range.
How much is a new vial? The markings are a bit grubby..

Thanks, will have a look at this. Not so sure about having it callibrated - my dad showed me how to do that 50 years ago.

The insert can be removed and 2 pack glue back into place.
They used a hot melt animal glue in the past. If you like the sense of smell don't get it hot removing it.

Clean the vial with newspaper and "Meths".

The Vial will be held in place by linseed putty or Plaster of Paris(dental grade).
Pick it out, clean it out and remove any corrosion in the hole.

You can go traditional way or use a clear silicon.

Set it up on a known level. Set the adjusters to mid point.

Place a bead of securing compound at the bottom. Insert vial, get it level.
Turn the whole machine 180. check. Turn 90deg, check. turn 180 check. That will be good enough.
Leave alone.

Fill the hole just under half way. If it has a side viewing hole, you want the securing compound just below that edge.

Lovely and of course it's worth fixing.

Nowhere near as big as yours but very useful all the same.
