If you said you didn't like it and tried to 'negotiate' something else, you went hungry and it came back at the next meal. That was a lesson you learned quickly.......

Ditto. We have bags of it. The bakers have it as well as a guy who makes vinegar. I make / have made a lot of his equipment.It grows like a weed here too, my mum makes as much rhubarb jam as she can & sells it for charity. We also freeze a lot of it plus supply various friends & neighbours. A local bakery sometimes gets it to bake pies, we get a gift voucher in return!
But several folk have taken roots from our plants and none of them have got them to grow successfully!
@OJCar - you probably know already but cover the plant in some well rotted horse manure, ours gets done every year.
There is a huge rhubarb plantation at my Dad's old house in Yorkshire where the garden soil is like the best quality compost you can buy but it never lasts for more than a couple of years on our London clay. I brought four clumps of it down to London last summer which seem to be growing but time will tell if it establishes or dwindles, if it grows it will be a nice reminder of him as he always brought sticks of rhubarb with him when visiting his grandchildren.It grows like a weed here too, my mum makes as much rhubarb jam as she can & sells it for charity.
