Ive been told they all had a dip in a citric acid bath before arriving to me. They were owned by a retired engineer who really looked after his kit.
Now that he knows I'm learning this lathing malarkey he's promised me some more stuff
Ps the drill bits are set into brass shanks. He said it was easier for him just to keep the big drill chuck in the tail stock and use these home made adapters

I help out all sorts of different folk in and around where I live, they look after me when they can. Also I have a job that takes me into other people's factories all the time as a consultant. If a little extra work or advice is required I share my knowledge freely without always saying that's going to cost more, in return I get looked after too. But this will be changing when I take up my new job

It's good that people still have the 'you scratch my back i'll scratch yours attitude'. Quite often our own commodity, service or material we take for granted is worth so much more to another person, and vice versa. I recently found this out with another forum member.

I got some copper pipe in various diameters,all 3 metre lengths, 4 x 15 mm , 5 x 6 mm, 1 x 8 mm and 1 x 45mm the usual "take it, it's scrap, we can't sell it", got a permission note and away I went. There was a bit of a sad note though, there must be 50 plus lengths of ball screw of varying diameters and lengths ( up to 3 metres, I think) and they are all going to meet the gas axe and sledge hammer. I did offer to try and flog them on but was told they would have to be destroyed for business reasons

I'm afraid not, they don't fetch much on the second hand market and the tool pages on Facebook are full of them.
I've seen a brand new select series top box bought for £340 for the lad to part ex it into the snap on man a week later for £400 because the snap on man doesn't know what they cost brand new.
