I better start looking on facebook then! thought the select boxes were way more than that in new condition. must admit i now have second hand snap on,with the bearing draws ,love the lock and load on the draws although they are cheapo plastic sliders! paid £400 for 40" wide full width draws, filthy when I got it, but oil and grease wipe of eh, but defo will look on facebook now you have said that. ?Thanks Arther

To be fair it all depends on what the snap on dealer had sold to part ex the box in at.
The select series are the entry level mac box but they are way better than the clarke boxes ect...

it was £1700+VAT new off Mac Tools. My local Snap On rep is my Uncle. He dropped it off this afternoon. It was a trade in box and he gave 500 for it as he made plenty on the sale of the new box and needed this one out the way.

Having had a look on the Facebook pages and eBay I'd say I got a good deal on it

I'm afraid not, they don't fetch much on the second hand market and the tool pages on Facebook are full of them.
I've seen a brand new select series top box bought for £340 for the lad to part ex it into the snap on man a week later for £400 because the snap on man doesn't know what they cost brand new.

Which Facebook pages are these? Didn't know they existed!

The rust you see is a mixture of surface rust and grinding particle rust, should clean up nicely.
The chuck is sized, but now sat in my penetrating fluid.

Oh yes.
I found this little beauty in the box of bits Norbert's gave me.



It has cleaned up well, it has a date of 1953 on it.
The makers name is "Speetol."
A nice little find.

That looks like the drill I've got, ok but a bit underpowered, useful as long as you understand its limitations. I think I gave a tenner for mine

I like stuff with rust it gives you more satisfaction when you use a tool you restored yourself.

Striped down, de rusted and re built.

As the paint was good condition I used my citric acid and flour pastes to rust on the base and table. Then a wash of and polish with 800 grit wet and dry.

The chuck was placed in boiling oil and then soaked in old engine oil.
Freed up a treat.
