Can you put a tailstock on that? , Only gripping a small part of the stock, quite large dia and stick out while parting off that can apply some decent loads

Im no full-time turner but done some training and occasionally at work and home and that setup doesn't look ideal for rigidity or work holding.

I was feeding it with one finger and trust me it's gripped tighter that a nuns a*se

I can pick the lathe up by it that's how secure it was.

Sooo much better than that rubbish mgmn insert parting tool that's for sure.

I'm not replacing all the Hikoki but now I've batteries and chargers I'll see how good it is ? the hikoki is the four speed model and has been good and worked hard loads of play in the spindle now but still grafting .

Hopefully it’s not like the one I had years ago . Looks very generic . Sheared the shaft off twice under warranty. Third time I told them where they could shove it. Dismally under specced shaft diameter with a soft start that did naught.

Haven't used it yet. But the build quality seems OK. Good weight to it. Will see what happens

I did look at the fein products 355 cut off saw but just couldn't afford it at that time. I went with rotabroach as there mag drills are good

That ego stuff is quite good. Customer has a decent armoury of grass and tree kit. In the summer he has a job lot of mongs to operate it. Some of his jobs require zero or low noise stuff. As the ego is a lot cheaper than the stihl stuff he uses that for the seasonal bods. The ego kit has lasted one season of ‘industrial stupidity’ and is part way through the second.

I would buy it.

This week a few FB Marketplace purchases

I've been after a vertical air compressor tank for ages that wouldn't break the bank, have occasionally looked at complete compressors and they were either overpriced or rubbish and overpriced

These popped up on Marketplace at a reasonable price, didn't want both, seller wouldn't split but took an offer





So I now have 2 working compressors, 1 tank and a pump, just need a motor and that makes 3 working compressors. Not that I need 3 so will sell on 2 of them

Quick search on FB and found this BNIB 3HP motor for £50

The age old husky stihl debate rumbles on but I have heard the same. Stihl petrol kit is better in my opinion but the husky battery stuff is proper good.

It works though. We have niggles with our stuff, but when you consider the amount of use it gets, it doesn't do badly.

Problem with battery gear is runtime & grunt. At least with petrol gear, you can refill the tank easily during the day. Recharging batteries is a different matter.

I've got a Stihl battery chainsaw and a strimmer that uses the same batteries. I put power down to the woods when digging the new drainage in. So I can have one battery on charge while using the other without walking the 200m back to the workshop. Although not an issue to me, I can see batteries being a pain for a pro. I don't miss the swearing at non-starting or intermittent petrol motors and the noise though

An inverter to run off their vehicle battery to a 240 volt charger in their truck with a relayed 100 amp battery & a home or business premise charger set up would solve the battery problem for a lot of people so long as they have three or more batteries to play with .
Pre Covid when I was at the local Men's Shedplace we put in a bank of six ( ?) double switched sockets above a wide shelf , so we could charge up all the different batteries on their own dedicated chargers .

IIRC I had at least five different batteries with five different charges when I was working back in 1994 , Bosch 48 volt , Metabo 18 volt , Makita 9 volt , a big rechargeable torch & a small charger for equipment batteries such as AA, AAA C & D cells etc.

Navel gazing and crystal ball gazing , I can see that the EU & Greens will have a big effect in this area .... less fumes & noise pollution will be the byword for working in urban , city conurbations & nature reserves etc. as battery technology gets better and power generation improves you will barely notice the change over difference for these hand held tools .

You would need alot more than three batteries for a pro to run most the kit flat out.
They certainly have there place but absolutely nowhere near replacing petrol kit all out.

The Milwaukee concrete saw is nearly 4x the price of a petrol Stihl version and comes with one battery. The battery lasts a couple of minutes and take 90 mins to charge.
Additional batteries are 700quid.

So all in investment would end up near 10x the cost

I believe it was found the chargers don't tend to play nicely with inverters.
