A few more piccies of the £30 dividing head (still in the boot of my car )...

Rusty spindle nose. The direct indexing thing has two sides, one with 60 (I think) teeth and one with 56 teeth. I guess the 56 tooth side is most useful for dividing into 8 or 28? I can't imagine many times I'd need to divide into 7, 14 or 56! Centre height seems to be about 120 mm so probably 4¾".

I've worked out how to engage and disengage the various drives (for worm input, gear input or free-turning for quick indexing), but I haven't figured out what that knurled thing is on the back of the spindle. It keys into the dogs on the spindle, so can't turn and I can't budge with gentle pulling force. Any ideas what it's supposed to do?

The tailstock looks to be from a completely different dividing head, but it moves smoothly despite the rust and, when the handle's turned to extend the centre a bit, the bit that wasn't exposed looks alright:

Normally have 2 plates you have the 'A' plate I think. Check that it's not 2-sided.

as we can see the the taper is some what bigger than the hole

it might be a word with @doubleboost to see if the faces can be milled down was £18 of faceache.
and

a unior 4" center punch the tips on all I have seem to be made of cheese , a 1/4 drive ratchet ( 90 T ) first time I've had a ratchet with a soft grip and I wasn't going high end for how little I use a 1/4 drive got a service kit with it to.
Time will see if it's any good .

Kiss my a**. I remember a guy overseas who had the above engraved on his licence plate frame. Nobody else in town had a clue what it meant.

There's a pub I sometimes visit for a pot or two of OP after a bimble on a motorcycle, above the bar of which is a postcard bearing Pog Mo Thoin.
The story goes that a gentleman from the emerald isle was living in the area and frequented the pub, and his parting shot to the landord every evening was the above. The landlord presumed it was Gaelic for 'good night' or similar.
When he eventually retired and went back to Eire he sent the postcard, which has the translation on the reverse...

How funny that you show this right now - I was looking at the same machine at 'my' manufacturer Metabo and I am really tempted.

The question bucket or cartridge I had not asked myself until now .... despite the price disadvantage, I will probably go with cartridges:
I attract dirt magically when I have to do with grease, which then remains forever on me and a bucket of grease would probably be quickly messed up - that would have been it with the savings.

Report how good the grease gun is, please.

I had a wander over to Jones today, I reckon Dr Al had one of the few bargains to be had from there. There was a Starrett machinists level at £45 which was tempting but I doubt if it could be guaranteed straight, the bottom surface had some light rusting and at least 1 dink that I could feel. A lot of other stuff on that stall was obscure and missing bits although there were a few vices lying around. Had a look around the rest of the stalls and there was a lot of overpriced tat on sale, Bisley drawers in fair condition £75 !. Came away with 4 milling cutters at a quid a piece so the journey wasn't wasted. Might go back in 6 months and see if anything else worthwhile has turned up.

I’ve had the Makita since it came out. Very good for general service work however rather bulky and heavy. End fitting could do with being slimmer as hard to fit on some grease nipples that standard guns fit on to.

TOOLTOPIA on fleabay model is 81007T there's an extra 10% of right now . First GW ratchet for me but it'll not get heavy use I'm thinking maybe the long handled 3/8's drive as I recently broke the forward /rev lever on me favorite Mac tools ratchet and I've been told the service kits for that model are no longer availible but that was by the man on the van , think he just wanted to sell me a new one . I may drop them an email.
