Today I acquired...........

I have done it, I have excelled my best ever bargain.

I am one very very very Happy Vark.

Car boot sale this morning, not the normal 2 go to. I bag this baby.

Seller was telling me it couldn't cut a straight line for "Love or money" Then he gave up on it and dumped it in the shed.
Pulling it out it did not work.

Got it home.

Opened the plug and the live wire had came detached. Nice to find a plug you can open up these days. t even has De Walt embossed into it.

The not cutting true was easy. Set the mitre angle to 90Deg not the 8deg he it set to. Ok the locking device was murder tight.

It still did not cut true.

The fence is removable, a quick look showed when it was assembled it was set up one click out. a quick fiddle and away we went.



That's the baby and a few rip cuts on some old decking.

I was walking round the boot at 7am, so yes it was worth it.

That's fine... as long as it's at 20 degrees C. That said, what about deflection of the plank under load? Are top and bottom of the plank parallel? How about curvature of the earth, gravitational effects...?

There is an international standard Metre; it's the distance travelled by light in a vacuum in 1/299,792,458 of a second. According to a very wordy book of things by NPL If you could account for all the parameters that might affect the length of your plank (temperature, humidity... er... grain structure... coefficient of woodiness (this may or may not exist )) then yes, in principle you could have a UKAS traceable plank. It would (wood) of course need a serial number or similar identifying mark - and you'd have to store it in some sort of protective case (maybe not made of wood though)

Ive seen that meter rule at the NPL. Looked like any other meter rule
