Ive got a load of listers to do up at some point 4 Ds and a junior. All in need of trolleys, I've got as far as cutting and abusing the wood work, and I have some drawings for the original trolley, which is similar to the pic.. There wont be a lot of varnish on mine though..

Are they expensive? I've got two of them in the garage.

This technodrive gearbox and clutch set up...very interesting...was originally bolted to a hatz diesel...2.7 ratio...i have a plan for this...

Just a quick update about some of the tools that I bought at the weekend. I've spent a bit a time during my evenings cleaning them up and they have come up quite well. I've found it rewarding. There's a few before and after pictures below.

The panel beating hammer was in a much worse state than I thought. Upon closer inspection I think it had been used as a panel pin hammer. The round face was like the surface of the moon with severe pitting. The square face hadn't been abused quite as much but it was obvious it had been used for small nails too. The hammer was useless in its current state so there was nothing to lose by trying to tidy it up.


I used a straight edge to measure the faces. It showed they have a slight crown so that's what I aimed to retain for the new finish. I got out an angle grinder with a flap disc and started removing the rust and pitting from the round face. It sounds a bit drastic but the pitting was really deep and I wouldn't be able to get rid of it with sandpaper. I had done an internet search and this had been recommended on another forum as a way to fix it. I tried to keep the passes even and I ground the face from all directions until all the pitting had gone. I then eyeballed the hammer face from the side to check for evenness and had to do a bit more grinding to even up the round face as best as I could. The square face was easier to do as I had less surface material to remove so things didn't get quite so wonky. Once I had a fairly even crown I went through grades of wet and dry from 80 up to 1500 grit and finished off with a polishing wheel on the bench grinder.

I'm really happy with the square face. The round face is still crowned but the falling edges are a little uneven. I don't think this will matter too much as due to the crown there should only be limited amount of the hammer in contact with the metal being hammered. Possibly a skilled panel beater may think differently. I just like the shiny new face, it can always make a nice ornament in the garage.

I rubbed down the hickory handle with some wire wool which removed some of the dirt. I've left most of the paint on it as otherwise I would need to rub down to bare wood to get rid of it.

The dividers and calipers have come up nicely with a bit of Scotchbrite and a brass bristle brush in a Dremel. There's plenty of tarnish but I have removed most of the rust. They are nice functional items now.

The mystery knife is in fact a glaziers putty knife made by J. Cousin & Sons, Sheffield. Ebony handle, brass ferrule. Absolutely beautiful, one of my favourite rescues to date, a very fine tool

These are a very useful tool in a workshop. As well as putting on putty it is a great scraper for rounded corners you find on lathe castings, for scraping off car underseal & for smoothing off silicone sealant.

Weld some fins on the back end, and chuck it on a spoil heap on a building site you want shut down for a couple of days.

Couldn't believe it when I seen it and it had been for sale for a few days. Facebook market place has pulled a few things recently and sold a few - all collected and without ebay fees.

A very very small CB

Mug for scale and that's a 6" ruler on top of it.

I did buy a Cobra with a display on the mic but this will be installed in the little cubby hole to the right of the steering column
