Got my mate to do our house...brought a crew in and in 2-3 days every wall and ceiling was done.

Well worth it....small jobs I do myself but a whole house would have taken me forever...plasterers who do it every day are a lot quicker!

The "dab and dot" concept is used by most housebuilders these days. Pretty sure it originated in the US. The advantage is that it requires little talent or experience, as you are basically gluing plasterboard panels to the wall and using tape, angle bead and air drying filler (like Pollyfilla) to fill the joints. Another benefit is that you can run pipework and wiring behind the plasterboards without needing to chase the walls. I've done a couple of rooms this way to good effect.

I'd never be able to master traditional plastering (even some time served plasterers do a crap job) and although I'm slower than a professional, at least I can make a decent job of it. Plenty of YT videos to show you how it's done and the materials are freely available at most builder's merchants.

I always keep a box of these on the shelf for touching up paint , applying glues, rust converters or wood stains, saves wasting even cheap disposable brushes. ( they don't work with thinners based paints )

This is the best deal I found and quality is as good as you can get.

I bought one for plastering but use it way more for mixing up motar and render , in a big tub you can knock up as much as in a cement mixer but without the pain of cleaning it out after

I got 6 packs of 6, I asked for 6 rolls.

Damaged packaging, so was heading to the bin.

There was 4 more bottles of lamp oil, but no space on the picture.

Bidding was slow, there was 4 bidders, then just myself and one other, he won.
Oh well.

Last week I got an E mail explaining that the winning bidder failed to pay or collect and pay. As I had the best other offer am I still interested, I, of course said yes.

Potentially the same issue we have with some things at work.
Couldn't work out why one of our sub-assemblies was so stupidly costly.

Closer examination revealed we were using a lot of expensive nylon tubing - metres and metres of the stuff, on a unit not a metre long. So on an entire machine using 8 or 9 sub-assemblies, many, many metres.

Looking at the tubing - it comes in 60m reels. So the system was set up with the buying quantity of one off, 60m reel. Unfortunately they also set the issue quantity as 1, just didn't add the units - cm, m, etc.

So when we put "1" expecting one metre . . . we actually get one reel. To be on the safe side for each sub-assy, BOM calls for 4m, knowing some will be wasted as the various lengths are cut, but not much.

But of course, we actually get 4 reels . . .

What's really annoying, is no-one in sub-assy thought to question why they were getting all these reels of tubing . . .

Even better, according to systems (IT) the quantity can't now be changed . . .

I started a new job designing and building control panels and was also responsible for ordering in the materials. Before building my first panel I checked what was in stock and found many rolls of cable with just a few metres used off each so built the first 3 or 4 panels without ordering any cable.
By now I had got to know the others who worked and it turned out the chap I replaced just ordered new rolls of cable for every job as he was getting a backhander from the local supplier, I would shop around to get the best prices.
On a side note I put in a request for a quote to supply about £10k worth of safety relays but my boss got a better quote from a company in Sweden so we went with them, a few weeks later I get a call from our local suppliers asking when I wanted the order delivering as they had bought it in without waiting for my order

Now, IBS. We're supposed to be moving to SAP, but the horror stories on the seemingly usual application have persuaded big bosses to postpone it.

I've had a good supplier quote me by return, knowing I needed it urgently. I chucked everything upstairs, quotes included, mentioning they had the info to crack on, stressing the urgency as I needed to hand carry them with me to the USA in a few days.

Two days later, he checked when the PO would arrive - he made them in the meantime.

Go upstairs - purchasing have placed the order elsewhere with delivery a week after I get back . . . Cue slightly irritated me, new PO issued to my supplier - parts in the next day, carried by me, fitted by me, machine now reliably operating.

Three weeks after I return, parts arrive from purchasing selected supplier . . .

I have had arguments with purchasing and finance about good suppliers, the personal relationships you build with them, even if you've never met them, simply by being honest both ways, helping each other when needed - can really help us meet our customers needs, and when we delay payment for reason engineers cannot understand, it impacts all that. Winds me up.

To be honest it's not that bad as long as you have someone who understands how it works. More accounts and control orientated than production.

It'll only be a generic import type affair, but for the price it was, I thought I may as well. Just incase.

Finally got it out of the box & assembled, today. 2500W nominal, 2800W max/intermittent. Not fired it up as yet.
