Ok, so this was acquired probably more like 10-15 years ago, but it wasn't until today that It has actually become usable. It belonged to my late grandfather who can't have used it much because it is still boxed like new. My dad has used one exactly the same for the last 45 years and it's still going strong, they are great drills. This one has always been a puzzle though because it's always smelt like it was burning out and a lot of sparking in the back. We just put this down to it running in and the smell will disappear in time. Yesterday though, it finally gave up the ghost and stopped working. I stripped it down to see if the brushes needed replacing and whilst inspecting the rotor, saw it had 115v on it, it was then that I looked at the spec plate on the outside and saw it was a 110 volt drill, not 240 as we had been using it. Im really not proud of myself, but having cleaned the the internals and putting it back together, I gave it a feed from a 110 volt transformer, (which might I add was inherited from the same grandfather) and it works lovely again. I just need to put an appropriate plug on it and it'll be great for use in the shed.
