Aren't you supposed to replace hard hats every so often, or after they get clumped? Seems kinda silly to use a second hand one of a skip, with unknown history.
Yes you are. If they are compromised by damage or dirt or if they can't be adjusted to fit the wearer. The KM on the hat is probably KMI (Kier Murphy Interserve joint venture) who are doing a lot of civils work in the west midlands for water utilities (I worked on Preston UID). Orange jacket probably came from the same place because tunnellers wear orange rather than green usually.
I wouldn't wear someone else's hard hat. Would you wear someone's dirty sweaty socks?
