Today I acquired...........

A 20" throat Wadkin BZB bandsaw off the bay of fleas. I pick it up at the weekend, it was cheapish, more importantly close as I'm still relying on friends for transport (license is due anytime now - I hope!!)

its a wee Wadkin at only 300kg. I want it to resaw the trees I've had planked down in the barn before I send them up to the workshop for making into the new kitchen and other bits of furniture. As it is a little Wadkin, it may replace my Startrite at some point, its still got a 6" bigger throat than the startrite, I'll get it and see. I fancy a Wadkin DR in the barn eventually but they are really big, even the smallest versions, but look lovely properly restored, and work very well by all accounts.

For now I want something a bit more portable as I'm still reorganising the barn to fit in a proper bar. I just got rid of my mates bale wrapper and hay tedder yesterday, they have been in the barn for 2 years so I have a quarter of the barn back

How could you not want to fill a workshop with Wadkin and Sagar machinery? They made special stuff for sure.

"eeh by gum " Today i bought a serious lathe DSG 1810 HARDSGYDE made in keighley with motorised rapid traverse
2.5 inch hollow spindle 18 inch swing x 42
needs the fwd clutch adjusted and a good clean and paint job
its covered in dust but not rusty and no lash or damaged slides
should be top class machine with a bit of work. weighs in at 2.5 tons so plenty rigid
should be a good upgrade to the drummond
thats it on the last photo when i get it home il take more photos

@zeppelin builder That's a beauty! I used a vintage DSG at technical college back in the 80's and it was so much better than all the other, more modern lathes there... they don't make 'em like they used to!

I remember those with the switch on top of the handle, Bloke i knew had one, put a new disc on it, & the switch had been knocked to On on the bench, he plugged it in & it started up. Thing leapt of the bench & the new 9" disc chomped halfway through his thigh & femur in sparrows fart time. He nearly died from loss of blood. Worth remembering.

it all works but was laid up as clutch was slipping fortunately i have a mate who was ex GLF machine tool fitter and a nephew oil shop machinist so cant see any problem tweaking it DSG even rebuild em to as new
for a few grand . clutch plates if needed can be water jetted from gauge plate and bronze sheet localy we dont give up easy us jocks
where theres a will theres a foreigner

@brightspark , Not tested it yet but if it does i am unsure i will use it, i saved it from scrap as i thought it was old and maybe someone who collected old tools would use it.
@Keith 66 , I did look at the switch and think it looked a bit dangerous by todays standards, but thanks for the heads i will test it with no blade.

I acquired all of this earlier today in two lots and it didn't cost me anything - The grinder and the drill beside it came separate from all the rest. The four electrical items are in good working order except for the rusted chuck with the key stuck in it and the grinder is missing a handle. The funny looking stand at the back is a 1950's era 'Selecta All-In-One Home Workshop' A drill can be attached to it and allows the user to drill holes at any angle. When I have time I'll clean it up an post some photos of it. On the right is a partially built wood turning lathe. The circular saw is a 144mm Makita and the grinder is 2000 watt. There's a load of rusty tools in the tub.

Same selecta as this? Big old bench grinder, works a treat, very fast very quickly.

Steel cabinet with 2 shelves & a drawer - £25. It's a perfect height for a bench drill, a new home for my Kerry super 8!

There was some useful stuff inside including an ally vee block & a bar of what looks like the insulating material you get on electrical connections.

A nice set of steps since there unsafe for work..they told me to sling them, so i did in boot of my car, just need some poprivets for a support and way to sort out the split in the leg since i havent access to ally weld.

^^^ remove the pop rivet put a 3 inch bit of steel and poprivet in a few places back together
