Was it originally a chrome cleaning compound?
Not quite, it was the residue when the plating baths were cleaned out.

I have no idea why I acquired it, or what to do with it, but it was all shiny so I couldn't leave it.
I got a Gray 'travelling beam 8000lb' jack from a car boot. I think it was a good idea but I'm not sure why yet. Anyway it seems cheap/ Looks a bit like this.
Where on earth am I going to find another one? And a forklift..AKA a forklift jack
Seriously useful bits of kit, especially when used in matched pairs...

I am sure the nuts are available The lathe could screw cut one for youReacquired to acquired, had these over 20 years, recently snapped the tip off the screwdriver, had a spanner on the shaft, all my weight on the handle trying to undo a stubborn screw, fair play it didn't burr the screwdriver tip but snapped it off.
The pliers I broke the jaw off, was using it outside of its design parameters (abusing maybe, definately doing stuff they were not designed to do) and it let go.
Snapon sorted them out for me with no quibbles

This arrived Friday from Colchester, wasn't cheap and it doesn't come with the tailstock nut!!
Tailstock nut has a TP 16x2.5mm LH internal thread, from what I've found so far its a non std size and taps in this size don't exist unless I get one specially made for the awesome price of £200-, thats not going to happen so plan B maybe. Seem to remember @doubleboost making a tap so YouTube here I come

If you are stuck i could make one for youNuts are available from Colchester but only as a set with the tailstock screw, going by Colchester prices I'd have to sell my other kidney LOL
I am on the trail of a possible local tailstock, have also messaged a guy who does cross slide nuts for the M300 to see if he can thread a lump of bronze for me failing that will have a go at screwcutting. However my previous atempts at internal LH threading were a bit hit and miss so would probably have more sucess making a tap and then threading with this.
Either way I have potential options
Cheers, I may well take you up on that if my current enquiries draw a blankIf you are stuck i could make one for you
I would have loaned you one16 x 2.5 isn't too bad to single-point. I have to make a 1/2" x 10tpi LH nut which is possible but not easy at all so I've taken the wimp option of ordering a rather expensive left hand ACME tap.
Is it any good for the post holer grab jaws?I have acquired a mini gas cylinder, I have no idea why I acquired it, or what to do with it, but it was all shiny so I couldn't leave it.

I think the boxford is 7/16 or 3/8Ah, I would have taken you up on that but I didn't think to ask. Is that a Boxford cross slide screw size?
