With regards to ordering Lathe tooling, do you measure the thickness of the tool to get the size you need to order or is there some other convention to it? I have a little MD65 Hobbymat lathe here that came with lots of tools so I've never had to order anything. Thanks.

You use the thickest tool you can whilst being able to keep the top of the tool at or below your lathe centre height.

I never set fire to anything but I did put the bunsen burner hose on the water tap. It fires a tiny jet of water a very long way

Remember the clear Bic biros with the small hole in the side of the body? If you remove the nib & ink straw the end of the pen is a perfect fit for a lab tap. Turn on the tap & the water squirts out the side hole & will travel quite a long way.

Another trick was to fill up a 100ml copper beaker & carefully set it into a blazer pocket. When victim put his blazer back on he got a very wet pocket!

it looks a bit like a very early coronet minor? or a copy.

the plate at the tail stock end with the slot (being used as afoot) is to convert if to a circular saw.

I was going to suggest it might be a wood-turning lathe, given the absence of a continuous bed, but @Seadog's subsequent post may scotch that idea?

EDIT: Ignore the above, it has a continuous bed - bad day today.....

That’s a very helpful comment as I would have drilled and tapped holes to screw it down! Good to know there’s a lethal saw attachment there
