Nice one Andy ,
I regretted every putting composted horse/stable muck on my gardens , it was full of weed seeds from the hay being used and the fact that seeds don't get killed inside a hose . .. Learnt my lesson well ,now I only used dung & straw based bedding from ruminants usually cows & steers as the multiple digestion kills off nearly all weed seeds & the straw does not have many seeds in it.
When I set my chop saw up on a long 10 foot bench I made 4 simple ladders covered in hard board, two to fit either side of the bench each about two feet long so the wood I was cutting ( 1600 feet to make a substantial fence of 24 bespoke panels with a diagonal lattice using treated roof batons for the top 500 mm ) was always on the same plane as the chop saw table ….it saved me making silly mistakes .
When it was not in use the platforms were slid under the bench & the saw to one end out the way
They were held in place with screw down handled F clamps … that also made it easy to put a length of baton across the bench top to get the exact repeat lengths .
The missus follows a branch of sustainable agriculture called Permaculture, basically low or no chemicals, no digging and loads of mulches, companion planting and promotion of friendly bugs etc. The mulches includes cardboard which tends to stop weed growth, she plants through the cardboard. Most of the horse poo we got was well rotted and steaming which tends to cut down on the seeds too. Our neighbouring farmer is bringing up a couple of tonne of farm yard manure, mainly cow, when he lets his cattle out of the barn in a few weeks. She's setting up a few beds at the moment, hence the need for large amounts of dung. She just built some Hugel beds, this is when you build a mound of earth over rotting wood, she dosed the wood with some bacterial/fungal concoction she brewed up, set it in a trench and buried it. You plant into the mound and the rotting wood slowly releases nutrients.
For the mitre saw, I'm doing similar to you, a couple of sheets of ply or blockboard set apart with some more ply to make an overall height of approx 130mm, the depth of the saw so the saw table will be the same height as the bench. I'll put a few drawer in it.
Cheers
Andy
