Just to throw a bit more fuel on the licensing fire- I don't think that the government agencies even understand the licencing implications of this!
To illustrate my point, a friend drives a 7.5 tonne truck on a pre 97 licence.
He checked on government/DVLA website which states clearly that he can attach a trailer to the truck and have a Gross Train Weight (GTW) of 8250KG.
He was stopped by VOSA for a spot check, my understanding is that they did not weigh either truck or trailer, (but as i understand it there was no question that he was over 8250 KG) but told him he may be prosecuted as he did not have a valid licence.
The reason that they cited was that the trailer had a 'potential' weight of 3500KG (it is a large Ifor Williams 2 axle unit) and he therefore needed an HGV/LGV licence.
Both the officer issuing the ticket and the 'grande fromage' that they subsequently met with said ' off the record' that it would come to nothing as it was such a nightmare grey area!
The point of this is that even if you think you have the correct entitlements, there will be a roadside officer that will say different so you are not assured of a hassle free life!

There were wrong. I have it straight from VOSA that its the actual weights that counts not the potential weights.
If they did not weigh him then if they take it to court it will get chucked out.
Its also worth knowing that if his 7500kg truck had been empty & has a real weight of say 4750kg or less then a fully loaded 3500kg trailer would be ok as he has C1+E on his licence as well.

a 107 restriction is applied to most people who passed before 1997, it restricts you to a max weight of 7.5 tons plus an UN BRAKED trailer of 3/4 ton giving you a max all up weight of 8250kg, if you did not have a 107 restriction you be entitled to 12,000 kg max wieght

as to whether its legal to drive, i think so, you could try googling stirling mini artics, stirling council bought a fleet of mini artics for refuse collection
they were then prosecuted by the police for being driven illegally, but it was thrown out or the case was dropped at a cost of over £200k,

The 107 is def a restriction on the GTW of 8250kg for pre 97 licence holders. You could get it lifted in the first year it came in if you could prove that you were using the licence for heavier weights.

have you renewed your license since 1997 when 107s were applied, if not its little wonder its not on there, but for you to be restricted to 8250kg you must have a 107, but l dont think dvla's record keeping is the best anyway
i found this Gov site where you bung in your license number, national insurance number and postcode and it comes back with all the categories you can drive

I had one of those heaters on a Mazda SL35T which was controlled by a temp sensor, this expensive gadget went wrong but the engine still started 1st turn even on hard frosty mornings but with a loads of neighbour choking white smoke till it warmed up. I just fitted a push button in the dash and a classic mini starter solenoid in place of the controller which cured the smoke problem. Just pressed the button for ten seconds or so before starting.

just checked that link you stuck up and that shows 1200kg there is no 107 on my ancient paper licence

I've just read that and it starts by mentioning Light Goods Vehicle and then refers to a goods vehicle later on, I wonder if that is relevant as legally a car isn't an lgv. Surely if it wasn't they would refer to a 'vehicle'
well most of the progress has been in my head but not all of it
stripped of all the stuff i dont need or want on the engine so i can make a decent job of repainting it,
and decided on a body type for it, since its a straight 6 something with a long bonnet would be good,
i found a few pics of what i like
i am thinking something along those lines sat on my iveco chassis will do the job nicely
i found a company called rodline who make a 1929 model A pickup cab in fiberglass

so busy that they wont answer the phone or respond to emails for 2 weeks, still nice they are so busy,

anyone know any where else i might buy one ? must be other fiberglassers who do such things in this country
