Sussed out the throttle switch,------- when on full throttle, it puts the blues n twos on!!! -------or calls the refueling tanker to prepare to pull in front for in flight refueling, 3mpg

lol er ok norm en route refueling, l imagine i will get between 10 and 15 driven at a steady pace , what do you think ?

after all you are doing Andy would you have been better off buying a F250 4x4 diesel or importing one i know you prefer RHD but left hooker are easy to get used to

i can cope with the left hooker bit i have several russian 6x6 trucks its the cost of an F250 10 to 20 k ? plus its just handing money over, this is a project, its enjoyable, i get what i want, i learn stuff and i spend less than 2k, and every one can call me crazy too lol

Years ago I down rated a 21 ton cargo which meant removing some chassis plates. From memory the rear shackle mountings for the front springs were originally riveted through the plate that had to be removed. Replacing the rivets with bolts was acceptable but the bolts had to be a specified grade and documentation had to be provided to vosa before the vehicle could be re tested and used.

ps you still havnt answered the bulkhead question

yes l havent answered the bulkhead question yet mainly because l am not sure what body i am using, it may well be the iveco cab as that is easiest in some ways
bulkhead wont require cutting but no middle seat well there might be but it will be warm and vibrate a lot lol

l would like a a more interesting body if l can find one maybe like these , but l dont fancy nipping over to poland to fetch one



or perhaps an old british truck






the body decision can be made later, for now i will just bend some tube for a bulkhead hang the pedals and a seat from it and go test as it is

l doubt i will go and see it, it looks very rusty underneath and it clearly was red with black toshed over it that is falling off now, imagine the work to rebuild that back to "reasonable" ten times the work of the iveco and its 11 years older, pasa i think, mind l wouldent mind the engine and box lol

Not sure I agree with the Tacho rules quoted on there. Private towing is not a tacho controlled activity.


If you take your B+E today (after 19/01/2013) you are limited to 3500kg trailer weight.

I think the vehicle will still be C1 so you would need C1+E, and possibly C+E. The B+E limit is now 3500kg, but the vehicle is a C1 not B category. I think you'd need to check that you can tow a 4000kg trailer with a 2000kg vehicle, even though the train weight was under 9500kg on a C1+E licence. From the way I'm reading it, unless you made your tow vehicle weigh 4100kg that won't be allowed, so I'm putting my money on needing C+E.

I used to work on commercials years ago and we very often had to remove cross members / spring hangers etc coz on some trucks removing the spring hanger was the only way to remove the leaf spring. The method was to use a sharp cold chisel under the rivet head and chisel the head off, sometimes the rivets would loosen, and require replacement all we did when replacing was to drill out to the bolt clearance size and bolt with ht bolts and nylocs no washers but torqued to the spec req, the only thing that was said was on vertical bolts that they were put in upwards so that if they lost the nut or sheared the bolt, it dropped out and would be noticed at service, also it would not elongate the hole as it rattled round. I would not have said the rivets were that hard because they didnt take a lot of cutting.

Maybe this will be a little help, The green mercedes motor is an OM366 - model code, It has the specs all over google for it. A very tough engine. Never EVER failed to start for me in the freezing cold winter. Don't know where its glow plugs are at, maybe that too uses an intake heater.

The OM366 like a lot of Merc engines of that ere are direct injection and don't require glow plugs. They are a fantastic bit of kit.

Only reason I can see for rivets is they would squish into the oversize hole and tighten up providing a more accurate fixed location. Dam site cheaper too than HSFG bolts to do a similar job.
I'm guessing the rivets are installed whilst the chassis is on the jig for alignment and then bolts afterwards for ease and speed of installation.
