The thing I was really worried about was getting paint in underneath the headliner but I couldn’t take off the masking until the paint was touch dry so I went home so I wouldn’t be tempted. Just been back and so pleased all is good. I want to keep the original headliner, it needs a good clean but it‘s part of the car’s story.

Got the engine bay top coat on, very pleased. Kept the original pressing creases etc but paint in nice and flat. So not over restored and hopefully similar to how it came from the factory was the plan.

Given how you've stripped the car right down why didn't you take out the headliner?

I thought you'd have painted under it, you've painted everywhere else, not having a dig, I just wondered if there was a reason.

It’s in good condition, original and I didn’t want to mess with it. I thought what’s the chances of me getting it out and back in without damaging it and getting it fitted as well as it is now. So I left it in place.

Having taken mine out of the MG (roof liner and cant rails) before the shell was painted, I’ve now reached my absolute limit of skill to refit them. I know it’s going to look a right dogs dinner if I’m not careful, so much so, that I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve walked away from the job.

Almost finished the first pass removing the old paint. Slow going on the fiddly sections. Will finish the roughing out and then give the workshop a good clean before moving onto going over it with the DA and by hand on the fiddly sections. Primer next weekend hopefully now.

Looks very good.
Only seen this thread today, not had any notifications. We took the head liner out of an old car, to get it painted. We couldn’t get it back in anywhere near as nice as it was. I think you did the right thing leaving it in situ

Took the masking off today after work, very pleased with how it turned out. Couple of wee areas on flanges need a stripe coat and I need to mask off the gutters and get in with a paint brush to make sure I have a really good coating before seam sealing them. The gutters are prone to rusting so they need to be 100%.
