or componentYes to both. Jotun products well proven in the marine environment from my own experience. The usual precautions apply- all mill scale mechanically removed along with weld spatter before application. If you want the vessel commercially coded- I used to do this stuff- the latter point will be addressed by your coding surveyor if he's a picky git, not unlike myself.......

The electrostatic charging only applies to particle filters. The gas and vapour filters are absorbent, usually specially treated carbon grain and this will last longer if it's in a sealed bag when not in use, since it won't be soaking up passing gasses and vapours.

There are some epoxy mastics and primers designed to cure down to 5celcius , sometimes even lower but agreed you have to warm the substrate to make sure it's dry from dew etc
The bottom line is that 2k and especially clearcoat lacquers,, should only be used with an air fed mask.
ive previously used it with 3m mask and cartridge filters which are supposedlly effective...they arent.
i spent a week in bed struggling to breath and shivering like a wet dog after getting isocyanate poisoning, and refuse to use a facemask now unless its airfed (and through a filtered air supply).
Anyone doing any different is a bloody idiot......

Not 2K, but paints containing isocyanates. The two are not the same, 2k merely means 2 Komponent (German) and tells you nothing about the isocyanate content. It is essential to read the data / safety sheets to find out what you have and how to treat it PPE wise. As an example, epoxy paints are 2K yet have no isocyanate content and so can be used with conventional PPE. Most acrylic clearcoat and solid colour 2K does contain isocyanates but again, always check the data sheets for a material that is new to you.
Against isocyanates they are unreliable, the issue being in making a reliable seal against the skin and with the current fashion for looking like a tramp, sealing becomes impossible. Therefore in the UK it is mandated that only positive pressure PPE can be used, aka air fed.
Sorry you had to find out the hard way, it can be life changing rather than just a week in bed.

If that makes you happy, of course. You are responsible for making your own health decisions, higher grade PPE is never going to be a bad idea. However, even though I have all the breathing gear, I don't bother setting it all up for non iso. Purely my choice and would never tell anyone else to do the same.
On paper, some cartridge filters are listed by the manufacturer as suitable for iso paint, but as I said, a negative pressure seal is very unreliable, hence their not being allowed to be used in the UK and quite right too.
You are very sensible, air fed is also more comfortable in use but it doesn't take away the facts. I would never use a cartridge mask against iso paint, but there are filters on the market intended for that purpose. I think it is daft, but who am I, against the American marketeers? I can't forbid the sale of such things. Sadly there are some, including another bodyshop professional that I know that do, despite now being asthmatic. All I can do is shake my head.
What matters is that you remain safe, once you have been exposed to isocyanates, you can be sensitised against future exposure with far more serious consequences.

That’s correct. Good for most organic solvents with the correct filter but they don’t filter isocyantes

Last time this came up I started looking at UV curing clear coat. It's expensive stuff, but cheaper than an air fed mask setup. From what I've read it's as durable as 2k stuff when hardened, and on the plus side there's no fiddling with measuring cups and ratios either. I wonder if it's safer than 2k stuff or if it also contains isocyanates? If it does not, it could well be the way to go.

its not as expensive as you might think. air fed mask =£200, 3stage filter=£600
800 quid is a bit of an outlay, but if you look at how much you will spend on mask filters (which arent recommended anyway, either by 3m or HSE, and are gonna be causing yet more harm) its probably a few years worth.?
are your lungs worth £800?
or would you rather have breathing issues/asthma for the rest of your life?

You've already added over a grand to the cost of your project/resto/build. Are you going to be using it again? Would it be more cost-effective to pay a professional & get professional results (yes, I know that can be hit and miss too)?
I'm in the same boat, and I'm considering using a neighbour who I've recently found out has a spray booth to either hire to spray my project, or rent his booth for a day or so....
My lungs aren't great tbf.... Once had them checked at a booth in Croydon high street & the nurse asked me if I'd been a heavy smoker! I was 21 and had never smoked
....so I'd say probably not

You can put any spin you want on it and try and shame me into buying that, but I don't got 800 to spend so there's no point in your trying. An 800£ outlay is just insane for me who doesn't do more than some partial panel touchup as part of rust repair on my old cars, realistically I'll use that expensive equipment once or twice and then I am done with it for a decade or so.
Only professionals or a very active hobbyist who regularly refininshed entire vehicles can motivate that kind of equipment and investment. Regular people just have to find non isocyanate alternatives or risk it, that's the facts of life and economics. I'm either finding an alternative or I am not doing it.
A liter can of UV curing clear coat is 150 euros by comparison, assuming it's a workable alternative. Otherwise it's 1K clear coat for me.

Its not something I would want to use without an air fed mask due to the components involved on the sds.
This one in particular doesn't look nice with a quick search
'diisocyanatohexane homopolymer'
Lots of other links that list it as 'compound belonging to the class of isocyanates'
