It doesn't make me feel better. I'd rather be wrong - but every indicator says I won't be.I doubt it, but if it makes you feel better to think that then knock yourself out.

You'll have to help with "every indicator", as most things I see, and have experience of, point to cars becoming more reliable. I've seen no evidence of this "planned obsolescence" in any car I've ever owned/had as company car.
Toyota seem to be offering a warranty on their ev batteries 500,000 miles, so they must have some confidence.
Are electric cars more reliable than petrol or diesel?
If reliability is your priority should you opt for an EV or stick with combustion engines?

I dare say it will be a lot more accurate than what you can get via tabloids and social media. It does include references and its not aiming to convince, just report and forecast based on available data.

No idea, but the insurers wouldn't cover it if they didn't have confidence in the lifespan of the battery.
Cheap shot with the "tabloids & social media" there BD (I don't read the first, & aren't fool enough to expect accurate information from the 2nd).
I do not expect to change any pro-EV persons opinion btw. They've already made their choice (& are clearly defensive of that choice and the vehicles).
EV's ARE expensive. The cost of motoring etc. IS being driven up. Older vehicles are being penalised and disadvantaged & being made more difficult to keep on the roads on purpose.
You don't need to trawl statistics (which get manipulated & massaged to indicate whatever the producer wants them to anyway) to see these things.
Perhaps you'd like to infer that I might be a Trump Supporter or Flat-Earther next, because I don't worship at the altar of the Lithium Battery?

Correct... A new car becomes a secondhand vehicle when it changes hands and is bought by the second owner. I agree...
But some of these cars - have one owner (finance house) and three users one ofter the other - as they now PHP used cars

Why would you try and use anecdotal secondhand evidence to try and change someone’s mind who’s actually bought one and using one?
The vast majority of people I know who have bought one have been ok with their choice, I know for a fact out of choice I wouldn’t particularly want to go back to a petrol/diesel car.
No one’s being defensive, what they are doing is putting factual experience to counter some misconceptions.

In 5 years when we are all filling up our cars with synthetic liquid fuel I wonder what we'll think of the EVs

Joking aside...mass adoption will require mass subsidy. Other than businesses taking advantage of BIK...and individuals doing salary sacrifice...they don't make sense to the majority of people...yet at least!
...but competition is starting to bring prices down...alternatively I guess we can just force poor people to walk like the good old days!

I've not seen any figures for a long time, but I'd guess private buyers will a lot more than 50% now.
Company cars are no where near as common as people think, although they have had a bit of a resurgence in recent years due to changes in taxation.

They’re certainly no longer the “perk” they once were, and taxation has made them quite unattractive even to users like myself who actually need them - as opposed to a salary top up for most managerial types.
20 odd years ago when I first had a company car the tax was fairly low if you did over a certain number of business miles, then that got changed out to being based on emissions in about 2001 ish.

Is the BIK still 2%...so an EV can be used for personal use...tax cost is 2% of £50k X 40%...is not a lot!...£400 a year?
Makes perfect sense as a company car...for individuals they look at the £10k-15k extra purchase cost...and compare to how much petrol/diesel that would buy...which doesn't make sense if you do say 5k miles a year.

When I first started for a major company around 2000, due to a regional head quarters, our depot had a car to van ratio of roughly 2:1.
Within a few years it was 1:1 due to the tax changes, then the company moved the goalposts (went from a 3yr/60K to 5yr/100k lifespan) so it dropped even further as managers weren't getting a shiny new car every 3 years.

If you think cars are becoming more reliable you must live on some other planet. Peak car reliability was circa 15 years ago. Only one way from here.
