All the info is there to be read on their website rather than make up the worst possible scenario for wasting money if you could be bothered to look!!!
Your "those who'd" would have had to have done it so they had the non-compliant car registered in their name from Jan 2022, and have it road legal, taxed and insured . .
Having lived and worked in London in 1991/2, I chose to do anything other than drive, even back then - so weighing my old Renault 5 in for 1600 quid and an annual unlimited TFL pass would have sounded like a good idea to me!
Driving a Renault 5 anywhere, let alone in London, might just be enough misery to make anyone want to take the bus - even without a cash bung

I must be one of the lucky ones with a BEV. Or perhaps just ‘sensible’?
I charge my car on E7 power, almost totally. 7 hours each night @ 19p/kWh currently. That means I can charge approx 49kWh each night, should I need to. That is currently indicated as close to 180 miles on the GOM. I achieve rather more than 2 miles/kW! I often just charge for 1 1/2 hours, giving a charge of about 10 1/2kWh (near to 40 miles at this time of the year). This takes advantage of any solar gain from my limited PV at that time of day , effectively reducing my unit costs.
A source of this table would be good? I expect it is not particularly from a pro EV report - exactly the opposite, I would suggest.
If I were to reduce the E-7 hours, I can use power at a cheaper rate by immediately joining the Octopus Go tariff @ the current rate of 9.5p/kWh. I could, if I spent another grand, charge with power @ 7.5p/kWh.
That chart indicates to me the typical cost of the price-capped cost of electricity @ 4 miles/kWh.
I have used public chargers on just three occasions over the last 4 months, or so (4300 miles travelled). I also charged overnight at one establishment (I could have saved buying 20kWh @ 75p/kWh
) I paid for that charge at a higher rate than my E-7, but considerably less than a public charger.That public charging accounts for about 115kWh of the (less than) 1130kWh used - costing me less than £300 for my total charging costs.
That means my costs per mile have been around 7p/mile.
On the Octopus Go tariff, I could have nearly halved that cost (but with increased domestic costs, at this present time). I will be reducing my costs in the near future as I am monitoring my particular electricity use with a target of minimising my cost (not usage) to the minimum.
Some owners, who cannot charge at home might pay out at the indicated rates on that table, but anyone with brain cells to rub together would not pay the 20p rate. Those figures are real carp for all but the most stupid owners out there!

It does at least seem like an initiative that's had some thought put into it - to encourage a switch away from the car, but with less negative impact upon the individual.
If its an initiative in isolation though, I'd have concerns. E.g. the concern would be that without investment into the public transport system to ensure its able to carry enough people where they need to be, when they need to be there.... and of course at travel rates that are very fair & affordable.... that it wouldn't actually be all that great in actuality.
At least it shows more evidence of some thought & consideration put into it as a policy - not just "Let's create an exclusion zone & screw those who can't afford an EV for using their ICE"

I'd not be in the least surprised tbh. There's little reason for anyone to have any faith in any "Public Servant" at any govt level IMO. The only concept of "service" I see evidence of - is "self-service".I am wondering how many there might be that would conform to all those “ifs”. Rolls Royce are desperate to push ahead with SMRs but the government are still messing about. They have now opened a competition between a few manufacturers. As we are no longer in the EU why can't they give the go ahead to a British company?
The potential for SMRs is enormous. Google, Amazon, Microsoft and ChatGPT will need them to run their vast new data centres.

25yrs ago I designed, helped build, commision an enormous two story machine for processing their big up to V16 engine blocks - spent a year in Germany, through a wonderful summer.
