Why do you say that when the general consensus on here is plen um?Plee-num is correct. But it's language which is not a fixed thing so who knows what tomorrow's pronunciation will be

Specifically for the upside down/reversed 'e', they say it originated in the days of manual typesetting to save them having to make up a special character for the sound - just use one you already have in a non-standard orientation.
