I can’t remember now. I think probably £200. Should be on offer this month. I gave £160 odd for the 1”.Any idea what the typical MSC offer price is for a 1-2" QuantuMike -

That spline drive for the spindle looks a bit dry should it have a bit of grease on it?
Unfortunately I think I need to do the bearings in the spindles on the mill.
Now I've got the hydraulic press, disassembly should be easier.
Not looking forward to seeing how much imperial taper roller bearings cost.
The problem is, someone has been in there, done the adjusting nut grub screws up so bloody tight, I need to strip the spindle to get in there and remove them. They've also used what looks to be a punch or chisel to preload the adjusting nut. It's a right mess. There is a good bit of slack in the spindle bearings on my Town Woodhouse - I will be adjusting them before stripping, might be lucky....
Is there any grub screws holding the jib in place ? Can you take a picture on your mobile and let us see ? Don't lose your rag with it, you will regret it later.Well Brad I've hit my first restoration road block with a locked up x,y table. Seems the gib is jammed solid. Possibly rusted out but I won't know till I can get it out and investigate. Wondering if you know which side is which in terms of the taper. I cannot see a meaningful difference in either end from looking at the gib ends. Table is extended to the left side as you look at the mill. I have removed the table and jammed saddle from the knee and am think I need to immobilize the gib with a temporary brace made from flat stock on the long side of the table and then pound the saddle to the left (in the direction of the temporary brace. Any thoughts would be most appreciated before I blow this thing up.
Get a slide hammer on the gib. Thanks Brad. This is a very helpful video. I wish I had spoken with you earlier as I have been trying to tap the gib out thinking it was continuous with a taper at one end. As I have the table and saddle off the knee at this point i am going to have to reinstall the lead screw and try what you have demonstrated in the video. I know it will be harder than what you experienced as I have managed to beat one gib in where I should have been trying to pull it out, but hopefully now that I understand the design better I meet with some degree of success. I will keep you posted.
