Diesel tank on the truck, defo wouldn't advise on Petrol

Just a patch of mis-matched blue on the underneath of the tank, no biggy. I could have made up some bungs and pressure tested with air and some washing up liquid, but I didn't! I would if I did it again, particularly if it was a tank that was hard to get at once installed.

Seriously, diesel is not that volatile and its flash point a lot higher than petrol.

New batteries arrived and awaiting leads. These particular AGM batteries are suitable for starting batteries (many are not) with over 500A cranking. They are completely maintenance free and can be mounted on their sides or even upside-down if you want. I used them on our horse-truck and found them very good. They don't out-gas, they stay completely clean and don't need ventilation.

Absorbent Glass Mat, they're filled with gel instead of the usual acid/water mix.

AGM are pretty cool...a bit more expensive but worth it. Once you've has a lead/acid battery explode the AGM ones don't seem so expensive. "I think" they are more tolerant to running flat too.

These came out at just under £100 each so not stupid money. These are deep cycle batteries so you could use them for house batteries if you wanted. The important thing is that not all AGM batteries can be charged directly from a vehicle alternator system. I found out the hard (expensive) way when I ruined a set of batteries in our horse truck.

Started transferring some of the bits of trim from the old cab to the new and realised that the headlining needs to be amongst the first items fitted.
It is a shockingly crap piece moulded from foam and paper and mine is not only broken but damaged by mice and birds

So the plan is to prop is roughly back into shape and use fibreglass and resin to stabilise the shape before tearing the old headlining material off and replacing. Rather like restoring the Mary Rose.
Starting to add mat and resin around the edge with the edge propped roughly level. I had a load of mat left over from another project and a friend at work gave me nearly a gallon of epoxy resin left over from a boat he built so this bit seemed almost free!

Reminds me of a story about one of our companies trucks. The driver was trying to find the smell of petrol and as it was too dark to see, he used a candle as a torch. He found the leak. Woof! Most of Liverpool was then able to find where the truck was!
Back in the days when an oily Rag set alight in the air intake was the only hope of getting a diesel to start up on a wintery morning and petrol was still a mainstay of the industry.
Do they offer a weight saving? Are they still lead filled?
Just spray can the engine. I did mine expecting loads of it to burn off but it looked great and didn't. Admittedly the manifold will need VHT.

Possibly heavier since these are deep-cycle batteries with thicker plates.

My next project car (waiting in the mother in laws garage) was set up as a track day car I think...it had an AGM battery which was about a third of the size of the normal size for the car so it's possible that they might pack a bigger punch and so a smaller battery can be used to get the same power for cranking. Haven't looked into it but the battery I saw was tiny...I guess the real advantage was that in a bump it wouldn't spew acid everywhere!
Shame the same attention wasn't lavished on some baffles for the sump....which I suspect was the cause of the bearings failing. On the up side it was cheap as chips and had lots of nice bits like adjustable suspension and body braces!

After strengthening the headlining up with mat and resin it has come out nice and light and strong.
I flipped it over, ran a grinder around the edge to tidy it up and tore all the old grey headlining material off
Still pretty gnarly where the cracks have been mended but a surform rasp did a great job of levelling it up
My plan now is to cover with a single layer of woven mat and resin to give a good surface to glue to.

Fitted the outer mudguards and shifted some of the door furniture from the old cab. Gave it a quick clean-up with a wire brush.
For the mudguard I made a 1mm rubber gasket and each side is bolted on with no less than 10(!) ¼"UNF bolts and rectangular washers.
These are puzzling me at the moment
I know they're mudflaps but I can't work out how they go back on!
