What about turning those million people in to food - would that help?I think the point is...if you remove say 1 million humans from earth aren't you reducing/removing their environmental impact...and if you do it by emitting less pollution than said humans would create on earth...then the net impact is that it's good for the planet.
Re Musk's guide vanes, I think the Russians had them on some ICBM's many years ago. Also of Russian origin is Musk's way of having very many small engines rather than just a few really big ones. It seems like SpaceX are happy to copy what they think works for them.
I gather that the Saturn V at Kennedy is now indoors and well-restored? I was there in the early 90's when it had been sitting outside for 20 years and was already looking quite sad in the marine environment. IIRC, the Saturn had a million Swagelok fittings on the various bulkheads .
