BOC and Volkszone - Gas Offer

i rang the head office on 0800 111 333

and they took my details then called me back ,
they knew about the v/s discount without me telling them,
they filled the forms in online ,then emailed them to me,
i will take them, to our BOC depot 1 mile away where they will supply me with the gas,


argon light .. argon/co2/oxygen mix...

20l litre bottle filled to 230 bar ...

gas £31.80
rental £46.44
climate tax..£1.63


£ 79 to walk away with the gas....




A. 20l bottle ..rent free from SGS is

gas £65
bottle deposit 65

gas is filled at 137 bar ....

Which means even 1 cylinder per year and you're winning, but if a cylinder lasts 2 or more years the savings might be the other way round. The correct economies would have to take into account how much of the deposit refund is lost over time. IIRC it's all gone in 5 years. Mind you: the odds of 137 BAR lasting anything like that long are pretty remote.

I may have made a slight mistake, yesterday. Had a tiny PD bottle (0.5M3) for the last year, which ran out on saturday so took it back to BOC yesterday.

I'm on the volkzone deal and asked for a price for the X bottle (2.5M3) and was told £36 incl vat so took that.

I just checked online today, and the Y (5M3) is £34 incl VAT! So twice the volume for £2 less!

Still, I'm happy - that tiddly PD lasted me almost a year so even with a bit more hobbying, the X at 5 x capacity will last me ages. And it's easier to wheel around than a Y!

But the hint to anyone else on the volkzone deal is defo to go for the Y size...

If you arrange the contract over the phone in the morning you can usually finish it by signing the paperwork after it's been faxed through to your local depot the same afternoon and collect your first cylinder at the same time. The total cost including the first year's rental is around the £90 mark with Argoshield Lite being few quid cheaper.

so £33 on the day ...for a lot of gas...

Doubtful.
It seems that very few BOC outlets are even aware of this deal, so you have to phone the head office and get them to set it up. They then send the forms through to the BOC outlet you will go to where you can sign and take your gas.

I think the problem is the lad is Polish and does not follow what is said easily. I am not much help as I don't know the volks deal. I think summing up he needs to phone the number for the person who understands the deal. Setup an account and pay £33.. Then travel to a BOC depot and collect the gas.. Correct?

Almost.

He sets up the account and gets an account number, but pays nothing.

Then go into any BOC shop with the account number and take away a bottle, paying for the fill in the shop. 2-3 weeks later he'l get an invoice for the annual bottle rental.
