came on this forum for advice really but lost two whole evenings really enjoying peoples threads about restoration. Love this one

Glad your enjoying the thread maxiboy. As with a lot of refurbishing projects they can be slow and time consuming . but I have 5 projects on the go at the moment

Made a start on the lathes pads/feet. Couple of hours chipping away at the filler. A good clean up and ready for primer.

Am done for the day. Headstock degreased and a slow process of filler removal .

I use one of these to remove filler. Hit it as hard as you like and chip it off, also works as a scraper as the edge is ground too. Bahco demolition knife, very handy

Straddle the workpiece if it’s large enough, makes it easier on the back. I could sit on the grinder like it was a horse, made the job a breeze!

One question.
If the fillers that well bonded why remove it to replace with new?

@spencer 427 I remember that you re furbished the rollers but I can not remember what they do. Where do they go and what are they for?

The rollers sit underneath the the headstock and they act as a guide for the main spindle pulley and the lower pulley.

One question.
If the fillers that well bonded why remove it to replace with new?

The filler is ok in places. But rust has formed under some of it. Unfortunately it's got to come off.

It's a pain to be honest. But can't leave it. It would drive me crazy knowing it was rusty underneath
