an average car air con is 27-33000 btu's so about 10kw's
again to give you an idea some houses only have 50000 btu boiler/ heaters

I've t'd into the fuel line just before the fuel filter with no issues,

that can give issues you are supposed to run its own feed from the tank, the pipe should be well short of the bottom so that it doesn't empty the fuel

try putting a 3kw heater in a car in a frosty morning makes hardly any impact even for 30mins or so

5kw can over heat a 12 x 20 badly insulated foot room.

but that room isnt traveling at 70mph, with the air being drawn in and taken from outside at what could be minus 10 and then heated immediately to the hot air you feel from the vents to warm you or heat the single glazed windscreen ( and all the other windows in the car) which takes up 50% of the area of a car, then there is the 500 watts ish for front and rear screen heaters.
the 5kw at home is recycling the air in the room not heating it from outside them blowing it back out of the rear as a car does to prevent condensation.

these are tiny heaters to just really demist windscreen for competition and are 3.5kw

Designers of electric cars are of course developing far more efficient heating and insulation concepts for their vehicles. Under floor ( in the carpet actually ) and film embedded in the window glass to create radiant heat - its no surprise that they plan to keep the cars warm with substantially less energy demand than using up the waste heat from an IC engine.

No no I agree totally! Just shows that electric cars not all they are cracked up to be if you need to run the heater or aircon!

exactly people havnt really thought about this scenario, about electric cars in the winter ok they are trying to get them warm but there wont be the toasty warm heat you get minutes from startup you now get.
a car engine running down the motorway could and does produce enough heat to warm two reasonable sized houses and that is just wasted heat imagine what a 40 ton truck wastes.

The newer EV's use heat pumps instead of just a hot wire for heat, IIRC they give anything between 1 unit power in and 1 unit power out up to in 1 unit power in and 3 units heat out. (cop 1 to 3)

another example is 3.5 kw for mainly defrosting windows and uses 13mm pipes most cars use 19mm hose for the extra flow required which is just under twice the flow of the 13mm

still wont produce heat like a 'normal car' heater though, try putting your hand in front of a 240v 3kw fan heater then try your car heater, the blow is 10 times stronger blow and is coming out of 3-5 vents, at that heat. Also the air inlet is from the outside ambient freezing air !!
heat pumps do work but not at anywhere as much heat output.
I had a sprinter van today and could not get the exhaust hot enough to do a dpf regen I blanked off the front completely covered the rad and drove it hard down the road to eventually get the heat in it all, as soon as I put the cab heater on the engine temp dropped like a stone!! and that was at just freezing imagine minus 10 !!
That is another problem for diesel vehicles operated in freezing conditions the exhausts are not hot enough to regen.

Small update
I ordered the heater with an LCD display, once ordered the vendor told me they had non left and could they send a digital display one and refund £10 which I agreed to.
It never arrived so they have refunded the full amount (never did give me the £10)
Ordered another but this time two days later they tell me of a quality issue and could they send a different heater so it looks like they have an issue with the LCD display, this vendor was a bit more upfront and told me it would be a 4 week delay so i have opted for the one with a switch and knob, its the same price but comes with both air inlet and exhaust silencers (Pity I have just bought one from China)
Lets hope it arrives
In the mean time my mate has found a couple of Eaberspatchers in the shed, typical he thought he had sold them years ago, so I have now been lumbered with Ebaying them for him!

There is a blown hot air one in a large 7.5ton motor home I am mot'ing and working on at the moment, it was a library truck so quite large and it was on by mistake in the workshop, it was quite warm in there to be fair, but it did seem to drop the fuel coz when I came to take it out fuel light was on !!

My eberspacher barely uses anything - certainly not noticeable over the 200tdi guzzling fuel at the front end!
