Next time you meet someone driving a brand new EV....ask them if its a company car. With a benefit in kind tax rate of 2% someone can drive a £40,000 Tesla and pay £320 in tax per year for the privilege!

Seems rather generous so I doubt it will last much longer.

It’s a no brainer if you are getting a company car right now. It’s bettered only by the salary sacrifice EV scheme but unfortunately not many companies have taken that on (very much like the cycle to work scheme).

It's 1% this year, up from the 0% it has been

Company car tax is so high as it was abused by a minority, vans and pickups used to be 0% until pickups became the company car of choice in certain sectors

It should be low for EVs, companies can afford to buy them so it gets the market moving

As a side now, I'm currently working with a company called 3ti who have developed a temporary rapid deployment charging system, we can install 6/12 bays in a matter of hours once the cable is installed. Good for getting real world usage figures before permanent bays are installed

That's what I have on order. I found it slower but much more refined than the more expensive Tesla

In fact, one drive in a Tesla had me looking at other brands, I wanted an Audi Etron but 18-24 month delivery put me off

The schemes are an utter rip off, the lease companies are massively overcharging... but getting away with it because it's still cheaper than leasing without the salary sacrifice scheme.

Can you provide a link to this? Genuine question as working for a huge client I have had to do a piece of work on solar panels, starting from raw materials dug out of the ground through to a finished product landing in the UK

Not once did I come across illegal mining, child labour or exploitation

Really ? What was it about the Tesla ? Was it a “modern” one ? They’ve made (and continue) to make quality / feature improvements all the time. Don’t get me wrong i am not a Tesla fanatic !! But I have a 21 Volvo and the Tesla and there are some differences for sure but the Tesla is not bad in my opinion.

Ah ok. The finish (panel fit etc) can be a bit hit and miss… and I think they are a bit iphone vs android. Lots of features that other manufacturers could copy - walk away locking and the sat nav is awesome. But get it - the general theme is very different to “the norm”.

I quite the look of the Kia EV6 but don't like the price so much...reckon my next daily runner will be either EV or PHEV but think I'll wait until all the post Covid demand excitement dies down a little (shouldn't be too long by the looks of things)

As with all these issues you need to see who is putting up the money and who is directing policy …

Edit to add my thoughts to this leccy love hate thing.
When I retire, I may consider blowing my tax free lump from one of my funds on one. Until then I’ll happily drive my 3l petrol XF - it’s absolutely lovely.

Even PHEV's appear to be the new leper on the block many towns & city cycling only greens are pushing for the same restrictions that are now inner city prohibitions . Not sure if it was in the monthly caravan & motoring mag that there was an article about it .

It's looking like we'll have to check with every Tom Dick , Harry & LGBTQ etc etc. if you take your car off your drive .....having obviously obtained permission for that in the first place .
