Gas or fan oven should be ok but needs to be around 50ºC or you'll end up with a sold lump.

Electric ovens are a bad idea because as the element is trying to push the average temperature up to 50º, the actual element itself will be at a vastly higher temperature. While a gas flame is also a much higer temperature too, it dissipates that that much more effectively into the volume of the oven. Don'e let the plastic anywhere near the flame of course...

Probably best to get it to temp then switch it off before putting in the plastic to dry out or soften. Place it on something non conducting!

'Dried' a roll of moist pla in an electric oven at 70° for a couple of hours, worked ok. Did put an external thermocouple in past the seal to check the temp, didn't trust the accuracy of the internal thermostat.

Now yesterday I changed over to a new roll of white PLA and all I kept getting was breakages so not happy. Someone told me to put the new roll of PLA in the oven for a "couple of hours" and that should fix the problem. So when the Sunday dinner is cooked I will bung the roll in the oven and see if it does the trick and stops the Breakages.

I kept heaving the same problem with my old roll of filament. It kept snapping overnight in spots it was forced straight. Blamed moisture and built a nice dry-box for my next roll of filament (same brand) in the hope that'd fix it. Having the same problem with a brand new roll... Allegedly the white and black filament are quite prone to this behaviour, especially on less high-quality brands... What I do now is pull the filament out of the hot-end at the end of a print and make sure it's not under stress when stored (roll it back on the roll).

I just designed and printed this little gizmo which mounts to pliers with a little magnet and (hopefully) catches mig wire cut-offs to prevent them from jumping all over the place.

Thanks, I'll measure up and see if it fits my Colchester Student or if I can mod it.

I've got a roll of pla that's 3+ years old, it sits on my window sill and I still use it. The window vents are usually open and the window gets condensation when it's really cold. Yet I haven't suffered one breakage. How are you achieving that?

Had 2 rolls o/of 3 Steadytech PLA kept breaking here. The 3rd was fine. Supplier couldn't give a damn. Never had an issue with the other brands. RS Pro favourite at the moment.

I've had odd issues with filament breaking usually towards the end of a roll and when it does happen its after the print has finished.

Pretty careful with the filament and yes I do leave it on the printer and only take it off if doing a colour change.

All my unused stuff is in zip lock bags with silica gel

That's what I reckon. Always happens in a spot where it's forced flat as well...

A few Days ago I printed some infill strips to go in the T-Slots on the cross slide of my Myford well it saves cleaning the slots lol. Ok Put the roll in the Oven 2 hours Later I removed it .. When it had cooled down it was absolutely useless.. It had gone so Brittle it snapped every inch or two so that idea was no good. Ordered another roll of white from different manufacture.

Are you planning on doing anything with the roll? If you're just going to bin it, I might be able to recycle it.

Can confirm it works brilliantly. Just make sure the wire is cool.
