See the little pip in the middle.
That shows how far off center height your tool is
because when i get to the center it leaves a nipple,
Because the tool is off centre.
I would wait until Brad gets down as I can see an accident about to happen here and you are going to hurt yourself.
That stock is only a moment away from flying free from the chuck without a centre holding it at the end!
That might not be such a bad idea
It's a cracking idea. As it happens I am waiting to go into theatre for the fourth operation on my hand in a fortnight and it is an absolute pain in the Ar*e! A cast on for four weeks:-(
(not a work related accident by the way but totally out of the blue)
I cant afford to be out of action like that.
ha ha yeh you do get use to using the other hand! How do you think I feel about it! Not to worry, I have had worse. Makes you very "ambidextrous", with only one hand to go at. Still manage to operate the machines though :-) Just need to be on my toes.
I guess it is all too easy to forget the chuck key!
There was a guy who I did my apprenticeship with that could blow that theory out of the water...Only once.
So I need a bigger chuck for bigger stockIn the picture where you are holding the bar in your left hand, do you notice the two (well 1 3/4) rectangular marks in the bar end from your chuck jaws?
That is how much is being held securely. If your tool digs in the rest of the bar will try to move around the tool.
Depends what you mean by bigger stock. As long as enough of the jaw threads are engaging the scroll it shouldn't be an issue. So I need a bigger chuck for bigger stock
