Yes that was my thought with the 4 chucks I have even though I use the one 3 jaw for most of my work. I just need a bigger lathe @Pete. To skim a bit off the back of.the chucks I haveI should get on and do mine. If you turn all of your chucks to the same dimension you could permanently clamp the collar to the spindle. It would mean splitting the collar part way through the circumference and use two independant clamp screws.

wow that is a great idea I love it! i need to turn a steeped plug then!? how do i do that i need to move the 2 slides together correctTurn a stepped plug to fit in the hole in the back of the chuck. Remove the jaws and put the face of the chuck against the faceplate. Secure with threaded bar through the spindle. Dial it in and turn the OD of the boss.
Did you make a witness mark on the body and backplate so you can rebuild in the same position?That is the chuck back plate turned down ready
