My machines have the tanks as standard, built into the machines or, in the case of the Chiron, slide out.
On the first lathe I had, Drummond M type, I think I used a 5l tub, on the bigger lathe I got next I used 20l drum, I also put a T in the line on that and fed it to my bandsaw that was bench mounted. I never bothered about a filter on them and even my machines now only have filters to stop the solenoid valves choking as the pumps can handle much no problem. A mesh up on the lathes tray to stop big bits getting in is all that is really required when no solenoid valves are used or at least that is my experience.
