for an IT spanner like me it’s surprisingly easy to set up and use

quite fast and smooth too

Ive just see some ABS on Amazon, it’s £9 for a kg and comes in a variety of colours.

will this be good for me? I’m only interested in having a variety of colours, strength etc aren’t important

ABS is printed at higher temps and is a little more tricky to get right. You will probably need to make an enclosure around the printer to get consistant results.

If all you want is different colours, buy more PLA in the colours you like.

Just the sort of advice I was looking for, it only perked my attention as it was half the price

PLA is much easier to print with. Abs will need an enclosure (search thingiverse for ikea lack ender 3) to keep the temperature constant otherwise the print will warp and split after about a dozen layers as it gets further away from the heated bed. Abs will be better for printed for outdoors or in the car as on a hot day in the car, pla is liable to melt somewhat. Petg is another type of filament which was popular during the covid mask making craze due to being easy to print and flexible, but I've never used that up until now.

FFS I write instructions is my usual answer

If you need a more durable material go for PETG. Easier to print and less toxic fumes than ABS. Enclosure still advised though.
