Don't bother with the half globe though, it fills in the bottom of the print and so there is no way to get any light through it!

With the Pi, is it best to use the dedicated Octopi OS variant, or install the standard OS & install Octopi? Been playing around, & it's hard work figuring this thing out.

Not installed Octopi but my usual method is install the minimal version, plug the Pi in then do everything over SSH
If you use Raspberry Pi Imager just press Shift+Ctrl+X and you get a secret menu, set the hostname and allow ssh from 1st boot

I've just set up Svxlink on one without it ever seeing a keyboard or monitor, I usually compile from source as well, get the latest version

You certainly don't need a "standard OS" - all the other stuff with it will effectively be "bloatware".

Keep it simple.
You dont need to care about what SSH is or which compiler version you need for which version of source code. This gets really complicated, really fast.

I'm familiar with SSH, command line usage etc., but not overly used to Linux. It varies to a degree from BSD, which I'm more familiar with.

I had a look through the settings but as yet, have not found what I am looking for. The dome has been filled too, not just closed.

Ah it's not just a bottom layer setting? Apologies then it might be a bug in their maker there - try the other one, it's way more configurable anyway

I've never personally printed a lithopane, but you'll need to play with fill/skin settings.

Actually, just generated a top sphere. You need to set infill to 0%, and the bottom layer thickness to 0 in your slicing software.
