ive not long finished and sold an "n" reg disco with a little 8"lift kit, extended brake flexi's, alloy dumb iron's with poli bush kit all round, new boot floor, custom rock sliders, etc etc etc.

but i would love and i mean LOVE to get my mits on a light weight.

your a lucky guy mate theres not that many goin about now and getting rarer all the time.

well she failed. main beam on headlights, number plate light, break lights and washer jet.

the washer jet i was expecting as i managed to kick it off when hedge cutting. the break lights worked when i linked the switch out (no one around to test properly) so that's a new switch job. number plate bulb was working when hit hard so that's a dodgy connection but have a nice new water proof one in shed that was for trailer but will get redirected. as for head lights i have a good earth but the dip (or main) is very dull only getting 7 volts so will rewire. does it work as dip all the time and main on when asked or is it dip and changes to main when switched?

You should have either main or dip filaments lit, never both. Check the dipswitch, they're not very reliable.

Brake light switches aren't very reliable either - make sure it moves when you press the pedal.

Is it one of the series LR's that has the switch mounted above the pedal where a big boot can break it?

update

fixed the number plate light and the break light the switch wasn't contacting with the arm so realinement fixed it on the head lights im getting power to both filaments just the value changes will have to investigate further

i have headlights! rewired it all from the first connection under the bonnet on the wiring loom and have used two smoke to electrical converters (30A automotive type sealed) with separate fused feeds from the battery (have almost doubled number of fuses!) just need a washer jet and then ready for taking back to MOT station (Monday got to decorate all weekend)

have finally got around to replaceable the grey/ greenish sludge that was masquerading as oil in the diffs, gearbox and transfer box. did find a couple of bits of gear that fell out of rear diff will have to see what falls out on next oil change. She also passed the MOT retest easly so is back on the road

Congrats on the test! You did use GL4 in the diffs? This is important.

There's a filler-level plug on the rear of the swivel housing, halfway down. There is a smaller drain plug underneath.

well i have oil left! it has free wheeling hubs and i rember reading somewhere you can't use grease with those

will have to crawl around when its stopped raining have definably got a leak on the clutch have had to put a cap full of fluid in will also have to water proof the electrics a bit more just gone through a ford (couple of time to be honest last time a bit quick) and she died managed to get her going again after WD40 and wiggle of cables

With a syringe that has a flexi neck or if you are inventive a small pump grease gun filled with it ..do it when vehicle is on flat ground slightly over fill and allow to drain to plug hole .

If you have none of these use a gravity feed and hang the reserviour off the wing , then a long bit of plastic tube that fits in the filler hole run the oil in the tracta hub ... remember to have some sort of plug handy to plug the flow of oil from the tube once you have reached full level.

Don't forget to operate those free wheeling hubs at least once a month to stop things drying out and getting tight.

You can use one of those pump up garden sprayers, the type with a long flexible tube, just remove the spray nozzle.

I modified a Calor Gas bottle, and use compressed air to force the oil out.

To get oil in the axles etc i made up a pressure pot a while ago.
It holds about 5 litres or so and the homemade relief valve is set under 10 psi, if i remember right.
The steel pipe on the end has a curve on it so it just hangs in the filler holes.
The bottom of the container is also a cone with the pickup pipe going to the lowest point.
It works quite well and saves loads of grief.
