I'm looking for a new project such as a Spitfire or MGB - the spit appeals because it's smaller, separate chassis and I've always liked them. The MGB has the appeal of being able to carry the dogs or kids.

I think both make good projects. Prefer the mgb engine. though
I have an mg midget with the triumph 1500 engine. They can be prone low oil pressure due to with lower bearings and thrust washers. In truth I would happily own either

Quick question, what do you have in that tank for getting the rust off the parts, now I have finished the welding on my Disco, well for a week anyway, I want to start on the MG.

Its basically washing soda crystals in water. I followed a few videos from You tube to get mine set up.
It good for cleaning things up while you do something else.
I ahve just finished evaporating my tank dry so I will post a pic of what's left in the tank

"Click" - and we are back in the room. Sorry its been awhile.

A quick update. It would be fair to say work has stalled a bit this year
the inner rear quarter in the pic below was the last note-able bit of progress.

With so much wet weather and the stage the car is at it got difficult working outside to make good measurable progress.
Thankfully after buying a 140 litre concrete mixer and several tonnes of concrete mixing later during the summer the project can hopefully resume
under a..........roof.....held up by walls.....with lights.....electricity....a compressor and spray guns.....

So with a 20ft x 14ft wooden garage hopefully we can get the MGBGT from under the pond liners and into its new home.

drag car up slope with winch
Remove Engine...Complete engine bay restoration (I could make a new thread on this)
Finish drivers side panels around the sill and door post
post pictures of wings bonnet, roof lining, and many other parts now collected.
Re-skin driver side door
Mock assemble doors and wings for fit....
Paint the Engine

I love the metal working part. I probably make the proper welders cry worth some of my work.

Engine and gearbox ready to come out
Hopefully tommorow.
Gave up at 11pm struggling with the gearbox mount.
You will also note the new oil cooler tray at the front of the car. More on that over this weekend.
Oh and check out the orange wings. More on those another day.

What a lovely afternoon. It was showdown time with the engine today. Engine, gear box and overdrive.
Tommorow I'm declaring it National remove your front crossmember amd steering rack day. Hopefully it will catch on and be as popular as National Angle grinding day. Which is a big favourite with my neighbours.

Cross member and front suspension all removed.
Also pedal box and brake servo.

I think most would agree that when repairing panels we spend more time grinding and sanding than actually mig welding.
The hours thinking through how we will tackle the next bit.
This is my next bit. Out came the grinder again. This is a section on the inner wing near the bulk head. A previous restorer had done a tidy job of welding and brazing a piece in. However time had rusted it through.
I have decided to totally strip it out and replace it with a single panel which will hopefully blend in neatly. If it fails to look right I will be shelling out a couple of hundred on a new inner wing.

In that area a lot of the rust starts in the join between the trumpet like bit on the outside and the inner wing. It may be worth taking the trumpet off so you can fully de-rust its flanges.
