in snow, and extension for blasting, I went over the (steel) door as it was boarded on the inside and I cut through it for access when the outside was secure, will feather edge the last bit when I get some more board, at the end of the day it is still a shed. wish I had done a lot of it better but the pressure I was under at the time was massive, HMRC wanted to do very nasty things to me and I could have lost the lot, house, shed, toys, pension, mind.

Regarding the nail gun, I went cheap (ish), bought a Hitachi and regretted it, noisy, kickback, misfires. Had a go with a friend's paslode and immediately wished I spent the extra!

I was looking at the milwakee one but it dont fire anything longer than 63mm 16G

Ok some I need to build a new shed to house all the useful stuff in so that I can get back to actually working in the workshop and garage.

I am thinking some thing about 5 or 6m x 3 or 4M made from wood not sure on a roofing material yet open to suggestions.

Plan is to perhaps sink in some engineering blocks at each meter and bolt the frame work to that.

All ideas welcome.

not advisable to use brick or concrete block, do a concrete mix and pour into its easy enough to get a sack cart and wheel the bags through the house personally i wheel the wheel barrow through the house

you can also mix in the wheel barrow when done

Max height of eaves of a dual pitched roof 2.5 m max overall, hth 4 m al, without planning , if within m of a boundary has to be substantially fire resistant materials , flat roof max 2,5 m , from mean ground level , dont forget ventilation,

I've done a similar thing. Mine is a little larger than you are planning (7.2 x 10.8) but I made mine from 3.6m long sections so it's easily scalable.

All sections were made from lengths of 4" x 2" and clad on the outside with 150mm feather edge over a breathable membrane. I bolted the sections together then bolted the roof trusses on top where the sections join. I built it on top of a decent footing and two courses of brick just to get it up out of the ground and poured a concrete slab inside so my four poster had somewhere to stand (sadly I haven't got round to getting it yet!). Roofing is Onduline and the whole thing is insulated with 100mm rockwool and lined with 12mm ply.

I went 2.1m to the eaves and with a 1 in 4 pitch on the roof my ridge sits at about 3.5m so well inside the height limits for permitted development.

I did do a set of drawings and might share them with you if interested.

no i did a base wall mix 6"/9" as deep as a spade and as wide as a spade

yours is bigger so yours would need to be done in stages but with no way to get a delivery of concrete without the cost its bags of mixture to go through the house

i used 2, 1 ton bags one full one empty just poured all materials into other one keeps all materials in one place

if you intend to make one with good pad plate then build your foot plates first then your walls on top of the foot plates

get free pallets as you use those for the framing before the concrete pour

i can say no back breaking feeling at end of the day

shoulders had a good workout though but certainly not aching like you do when mixing in a cement mixer

ive done most ways but do not like mixing in a wheel barrow by a spade of shovel

18" or thicker foundation



mixed all day 8.30am was done by 2pm washed off and home

as you can see just wheelbarrow tipped into the hole and then spaded level if your mixture is wet enough best to do it that way when placing with thicker material but takes longer to dry out



my builders hoe adapted and mixes better

his materials he will struggle with so its either build a floor its gonna be wood or concrete or both in use

where the machines are going to be, do a concrete base where there isnt gonna be a machine do it in wood his choice really when you cant get delivered cement to where you want it dropped off or get it pumped over the garage to the back of the house

Have you thought about EPDM for a roof covering? Very easy to lay, and obviously good for low pitch roofs. And a million times better than felt.

I had not thought about that no tell me more. The pitch will not be that low. I was planning on osb then metal over the top.

I’ve used it on a couple of smallish roofs, one flat and one with a shallow pitch. It’s stuck downmfor the most part with amwater based contact adhesive over ply or OSB decking, with a stronger solvent based contact adhesive round the edges and other details. A flexible material is used for flashing the tricky bits (round vents or abutment corners etc). Trims are used at the eaves and verges. But the link above gives much more detailed information!
Just to add, It is incredibly tough stuff - I’ve tried stabbing it with screwdrivers etc and it take s a load of abuse. It also looks a bit like the old traditional sheet lead roofs - dull grey rather than black.

For steel box profile minimum pitch is 4 deg , I guess that is about the same for other coverings ,steeper the pitch quicker shedding of rain , less chance of pooling , re the epdm it's good stuff , the glue need to be suited, Ihave some and I am gluing it to the underside of my land rover floor and gearbox tunnel,

I did a concrete slab base sat on 6" compacted hard core, steel mesh, and 6" concrete with fibres in it. Ground conditions are fairly firm clay here with lots of galcial stone in it, almost no top soil. I then have an outline of engineering brick. Frame made from 4x2 sits ontop of the outline of bricks, with a dpm between. Base rails are rawl bolted through the bricks into the slab. Frames are covered with 6mm marine ply, a membrane then 25 to 32 feather edge tanalised boards. Roof is trusses, then sheeted with osb, and onduline.

If doing it again what I would do different. Roof would be insulated box profile. Slab would be polished with a machine, before its fully set. Frame would still be 4x2 but 12mm ply on the inside, kingspan in the cavities, then membrane, then the feather edge. Doors and eves would be higher. The single garage sized car port on the end for the Mrs would be omitted, and given a pair of single garage doors. Could also possibly be interested in insulating below the slab, to make for a toastie shed.
