maybe i will use engineering blocks layed on 12" deep footings for the outline for the frame to sit on, then 4x2 frame joist hangers across for the floor then i could insulate between then if needed. This shed is mainly for storage, stock garden tools all manor of useful stuff not to work in.
Roof still undecided but I may make a over hang with a veranda so it looks nice and we could sit under it in the summer.

Sleepers set in concrete on edge @600c with 2x2 counter battens @400c covered in osb18mm make a very solid base for a fraction of the cost of concrete
Frame off it and clad down past the sleepers.

I dig a small trench 100 odd mm deep 200mm wide and bed the sleepers in it with concrete. Haunch up the sides to protect from the ground

Second best thing I did was to add a covered verandah (sp??) - makes it much better going in and out, plus extra weather protection for the doors. The best thing was adding a vapour barrier inside, breathable membrane outside and insulation in between.

Reading up if the shed is 2.5M hight or less I can have it 1m from the boundary if it is higher than 2.5m then it needs to be 2m from the boundary. So 2.5M high it will have to be

Can you orientate your shed so the roof faces south ? You never know in the future you may want/need to put solar PV panels on it .

Where would be the place to order the timber for this sort of construction? And what type? 2x4 for the framing, just plain untreated softwood? Would you need a big frame nailing gun, or screw it together?

I have ordered a 8x 10 wood shed, from a local company, just for storage, as I have so much stuff I need to simply get out of my single car garage before I can even think about doing anything else. It arrives Thursday, coincidentally my 60th birthday. That’s costing me a grand, delivered and assembled.

I need a workshop eventually though as the single car garage will be for storing the hot rod, and I have only walking access to the back yard at present.

Must confess after 50 years of sheds , garages & useful buildings , given the choice of something that's heatable and dry I'd go for a hollow block building lined with tar paper and then a CLS inner frame & insulation behind plastered foil backed plaster board & a 300 mm thick insulation in the vented roof void .. just make an accurate plan of where the cables and wood work is behind the boards so you can locate them when putting things up on the walls . Electrics would be surface run in steel conduits all 24 double sockets and at least one 32 amp socket by the back of the shed and one near the front door .
I'd make the roof trusses out of CLS and thin construction ply as hollow boxes glued with water proof glue and nailed up as they are very very strong if made properly and able to span 4 mtrs with ease .

one side would face south but with the trees I doubt the solar pannels would make much juice

Mine keeps an old leisure battery topped up which I use to drive acar radiator fan to ventilate the shed when spraying or grinding in there.

Just purchased a second hand Paslode nail gun, I like the idea of railway sleepers for the base been looking at this for the roof.

Just round the corner from me, and are a good company to deal with - good for advice on what you need, like fixings and flashings etc. They mention the condensation problem with this sort of roofing, but with breathable membrane and insulation that’s easy to sort.

ps I’ve got half a roll of rock wool insulation and a 8x2 sheet of 50mm polystyrene (in two bits after the last gale) if they are any use to you, let me know

If i have boarded the whole roof with osb do i then use a membrane over the osb before i screw the tin sheets down. Yes please insulation is always handy. I had loads after doing the house upbut gave it all away.

For £2k , 15 yrs ago we purchased a 44 mm thick walled 6x4 log cabin 2 mtrs of which are the verandah direct from the online importers , made of Icelandic double T&G pine . I spent a couple of weeks setting up a reinforced mesh concrete floor over blinded rubble and a double DPC sheet so the shed when constructed is 100 mm above the path levels , treated the floor bearers with several coats of long term preservative. Built it sprayed inside and out with three preservative coats then lined it with 2 mm engineering damp proof sheeting , constructed an inn frame of CLS put insulation in and then added foil backed plaster board , same with the roof . I think it cost about another £1600 by the time th bae was laid and the third final external coat of forest green water based paint was sprayed on it . One thing I did do that I'm so pleased I did was to cut shouldered slots in the vertical CLS lining timbers and used specially selected length washer headed coach screws to secure them via th shouldered slot to the outer walls through the industrial water poof membrane .. this allows the internal vertical timbers to slip and slide on the water proof membrane as the wood expands or contracts in length due to changes in humidity without pushing the outside horizontal planks apart letting in wet weather .

you should really put trimmers in above the felt but you dont have to do

it should be laths run down with the rackers and then one that runs across for fastening like slates do

in that case there is no point in using osb over the roof joists

yes there is you use osb board 11mm to stop the drope of the felt

otherwise the felt sags in the middle then fails and lets water in
